Hi I'm Lani
I'm a childbirth enthusiast, a writer, and a mother. I'm a Mormon.
I studied English and editing in college. Back in those days, heaven (to me) was walking through a bookstore. Now I rarely find time to read books (to myself that is). Instead I read to four little children I have the great honor and blessing to call mine. When I'm not busy being Mom, much of my time is spent writing. I write about pregnancy and childbirth on my blog, and I recently published a book with a group of wonderful Mormon women who share my passion for the beautiful gift of giving life. I also have a deep love for green things... houseplants, trees, vegetables. Green things do a body good (green jello not included!). Nearly twelve years ago, I married a young man who was (and continues to be) my best friend. Best decision I ever made.
My ancestors heard about the Mormon church both here in the U.S. and abroad and made their way to Utah as pioneers, crossing the plains with all their possessions and their faith in God. They passed that faith in God down through their examples and teaching. So I was born into a Mormon family, but that's not really why I'm a Mormon. Life has exposed me to all types of belief systems, and I have recognized beautiful truths and wonderful people within all of those various faiths and religions. Yet The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has enabled me to have the greatest spiritual experiences of my life. I believe that the Holy Spirit can teach us the truth of all things, and that Spirit has shown me in more ways than I could recount here that being a Mormon is exactly what I need to be. The Book of Mormon has been a source of light, truth, strength, and personal revelation throughout my life. I know that it is a holy book, inspired by God, preserved through centuries for our benefit. I know that reading it will bring us closer to God and strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ. I know that God loves me. I know that God loves you. I know that the most important thing we can do in our lives is to love God by loving those around us. I know that Jesus Christ was the ultimate example of this pure Godly love. I aspire to become more like Him. My membership and participation in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints motivates and inspires me to be a better follower of Jesus Christ every day.
I used to dream about traveling to far away places to "change the world." I even traveled to Mexico on a humanitarian expedition the summer after I turned nineteen. But I have since realized that we don't need to look far to find those in need of our love. Our most effective circle of influence is, in fact, very near to us... all around us every single day. The Lord told me years ago to search after those who are in need of the care I can give them. And I try to do that wherever I am. Often that's right within the walls of my own home.
