Hi I'm Danette

I'm a Mormon. I grew up on a dairy farm in Idaho. I work for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of 5, 2 girls, 3 boys and step-mother of 4, 3 girls, 1 boy! I am a grandma of 8, 7 boys, 1 girl with 2 on the way and step-grandma of 5, 2 boys and 3 girls with one on the way. I love to spend time with my family, garden and hunt and fish. I did not attend college, but was married right out of high school and raised my children, 21 years later I went to work full time and I supervise a team of 11 people and about 100 volunteers. I love people and listening to and helping them. My idea of a perfect day is to spend it in the mountains enjoying the beauty that God has given us and just being grateful to wake up each day.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I went to many churches growing up in Idaho but was never happy with the way that the minister or preacher behaved. I didn't like that they all had something negative to say about other religions. I was raised with the understanding that if you didn't have anything good to say about someone then to say nothing at all, so hearing all of the negativity I never could find one that interested me. My senior year in high school I was introduced to the missionaries, I loved the message and felt as though I finally had found what I was looking for. I felt peace for the first time in my life. I joined the church just after the last lesson and have never been disappointed that I did. My family pretty much disowned me because of their own beliefs about the mormons, but it never has made me regret my decision. I love the Lord and after spending time with others in other religions answering their questions about what we believe I am even more grateful that I am able to learn for myself what the scriptures say and not go where it message from the pulpit is negative about another religion.

How I live my faith

My husband and I are Church Service Missionaries. This means that we spend time not in our ward but out in the community helping others. Our particular Misssion is to work with those that work at the Deseret Industries. We help them with their resumes and how to interview. We encourage them to be the best that they can and help them to see the positive in their lives. It has been a rewarding year and we just signed up for another year. I also serve as a visiting teacher, which means that I with another woman from my ward go to other women in our ward and give them a message from the Ensign, a magazine done by the church, and see how they are doing! We ask if there is anything that they need and help where we can or are needed. It is a very rewarding thing to serve others!

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Danette
It was going to a church service that got me interested in this church. There was such a feeling of peace listening to regular members of the church give the message in Sacrament Meeting instead of a minister preaching, it is everyday people sharing their feelings and experiences in life and church and their ideas about how the topic is used in their lives, how they live the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. My 3 year old grandson goes to the nursery and every time he comes with us he is so excited to go and be with the other kids his age and learn more about Jesus. They learn at a very early age about Jesus and how He loves them and helps them to love others. When I don't attend church for reason of travel or illness, I feel a loss in my day and it continues through the week. Show more Show less
