Hi I'm Kayla

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Kayla. I'm 21. I've been Mormon my whole life! I'm married to an amazing man. He is the greatest blessing! We don't have kids, but hope to be parents soon! We are college students! We are not rich by the worlds standards but we are rich with love for each other and love for the gospel! After I graduated from high school I found a full time job; paid vacations, full benefits, a great salary! I was so blessed to find that job! I worked in the mornings, took a few classes in the evenings and I was happy! Then my friend got off his mission. Next thing I knew we were engaged and now married! And although I was glad to be married, I was depressed! It took me a year to figure out why. I was simply getting through each day. I didn't enjoy what I was doing. But I had been taught its not about getting through the day, Its about getting through life and ENJOYING IT! I reevaluated what was important. I wanted to be back in school. I wanted a job that made me feel like I accomplished something! I wanted to come home and enjoy the time I had with my husband. So, putting my trust in Heavenly Father, I threw caution to the wind, quit my job, applied for loans and signed up for school! I have a job now babysitting and love it! I strive everyday to make the best with what I have and to remember that without Heavenly Father I wouldn't have anything! We don't have a lot of money. We barely fit into our apartment. But we have each other! Its time that counts. It's love that matters!

Why I am a Mormon

There is a peace that comes from belonging. There is a joy that comes from believing in yourself. There is a strength that comes from knowing you are loved. I find that peace of belonging in the Mormon community. I find that joy of believing in myself from the virtuous qualities I have been taught. I find that strength of knowing I am loved from my Father in Heaven. I am a Mormon because I can not deny the power I feel in my heart when I speak to God. He is always there when I go to Him for help! I see Him in the hearts of others. I feel His love when I am serving. I am a Mormon because if I am not actively serving Him, my life is crazy! When I put God first it seems like every little thing falls perfectly into place. My Heavenly Father has never let me down. When I was a little girl I lost my baby blanket! I was devastated! I could not find it anywhere! I prayed that I would find that blanket because I needed it to sleep at night. And guess what? I found it! I am a Mormon because someone cared enough to help a child find a blanket! And if He cares about that, then I want Him on my side for when the bigger trials come!

How I live my faith

Religion is so much more than attending church once a week! It has to be something that is eternally woven into your heart and soul! I live my faith through my actions and my thoughts! I have to be an example to those I am surrounded by. I have to proudly explain why I don't drink or smoke or 'party' like others do. I can't let my guard down for anything! It is so important to remember that our Father in Heaven wants us to return to Him someday. We must constantly remind ourselves that we can do better! That, even though we will not be perfect in this life, we can be perfect someday! And it is through the small and simple things we do each day that we will reach that perfection! I live my faith by basing even my simplest of choices off of my Heavenly Fathers guidance!

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

As a woman in the Mormon church, I have pondered this question several times. I've grown up in the mormon church and as a young girl never quite understood the equality of men and woman when the men held the priesthood and I was not able to. I am 21 years old and have just barely began to understand how I am equal with the men. It wasn't until I got married that my role began to be more apparent. Men and woman are equal. The men have the gift and power of the priesthood which is something that can only be received from another priesthood holder. But woman, we have the gift of motherhood! We are given the responsibility, the blessing and the power to bare children! We are to nurture and love and raise God's children! Even those woman who can not bare children have the responsibility to help teach and love the members of our Heavenly Fathers church! Are men and woman equal? Yes! If you consider equality to be that we each have divine duties to fulfill while we are here on this earth. Never compare your duties to others. You are just as important in God's plan whether you have the priesthood or not! It isn't until we realize what our individual calling in life is that we will recognize our equality!
