Hi I'm Jonna

I'm a college graduate. I'm a Disney fan. I'm from Arizona and my heart lives in Texas.

About Me

I am a young single adult who is finding the joys of this unique time in my life. Right after high school, I went to China to teach English to children. I have a special place in my heart for those sweet people there. Soon after this adventure, I worked in a kindergarten class for 5 years. This put me through college as worked for a BA in Family Studies. I grew up watching Disney movies with my family and it has shaped into a love for the "Disney magic." My idea of a good time is watching a classic Disney movie and eating a bowl of popcorn. Kinda dorky, but it's me! Some of my favorite memories are those of my family and I together at Disneyland, and we still love watch old home videos of our times there. Above all, my family is, truly, my greatest treasure. I recently returned from the Texas Houston East Mission. It has been one of the best and most rewarding adventures of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Church, and taught the doctrines of the Gospel by my parents and leaders. However, everyone must gain their own testimony-I also faced that decision. When I was 10 years old, I remember having an overwhelming desire to see my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ again. I knew that I wanted to make Them proud of me and happy to welcome me home. I made a decision then that I was going to do whatever it took. I read the Book of Mormon, prayed to my Heavenly Father to know if it was true, and recieved a confirming witness in my soul that it was. In time, I came to have a testimony of the rest of the Gospel through the same process of study and prayer. In times of difficulty, I reflect on my experience of when I was a child and that same witness of the Spirit tells me what I felt all those years ago is true still. I still feel the same desire to return clean and pure. I know that the Lord Jesus Christ lives. I know that if Heavenly Father could send His Spirit to bear witness to me, at 10 years old, then I know that He could reveal Himself to Joseph Smith, at 14 years old, to restore His Church. I know that the Book of Mormon is a book of truth. This book brings peace, comfort, and direction into my life. It testifies of Jesus Christ, my Savior. I love Him! He knows me, personally, and He loves me.

How I live my faith

I try to live as the Savior lived. And, I try to follow Him more closely each day by praying, studying the scriptures, attending church meetings, and going about doing good. I served a mission for my Heavenly Father in the Texas Houston East Mission! I try to remember that the Savior went about doing good when He was on the earth. Each day I seek to serve and teach others as He did, and this has brought me so much happiness. As a missionary, I noticed people more. I noticed their faces and I sought to understand them. As I focused on the people that Christ loves (which is everyone!) I found that I love them too. Currently, I have been blessed to continue to share the message of Christ by assisting the missionaries in my hometown. I still desire to find and teach people who need the Gospel. I want them to be happy and find peace-just like I have.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

The blessings are countless. Not only do I receive peace and comfort when I read the scriptures, I find direction. We can all find purpose and strength in what we do. When we read the Book of Mormon, coupled with the Bible and modern revelation, we can see that they work together to testify of Christ. I find peace and joy when I read the Bible and the Savior's life. When I read the Book of Mormon, I can see that the Lord loves all His children and wants us all to know of His Son. When we read modern revelation through our prophets, we can see that the Lord is anxiously interested and involved in our lives today. He wants us to return and it is through our daily study of scriptures that we can do so. To me, this is a great blessing, to read and learn about my Savior. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

This is the Gospel of good news! The good news is that Jesus Christ provided a way for us to have eternal life with Him and the Father. We now have everything we need back on earth for us to get home to Him. We can repent, be forgiven, be clean, have direction, feel peace, and experience true happiness! Not only is it a commandment to share this good news (Matt. 28:19), but it is a burning desire of all missionaries to share this wonderful message with as many as they can find. Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

My faith in Jesus Christ has increased as I learn more of Him. As I read about Him in the Bible and study His teachings in the Book of Mormon, I learn more about why He is so important to us. I learn Who He is. I learn why He did the things He did. I learn why He taught what He taught. In my heart, I can feel that these things are true. I exercise a little faith in Him and then it grows (like in Alma 32:28-43). My faith in Him increases each day as I pray and apply His teachings to my life. This faith grows stronger each day as I come closer to HIm. For me, it all starts with learning more of Him. Learn, pray and grow! Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

I know that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. From the beginning, there has always been a prophet. After Christ and His apostles were killed, there was no longer a prophet on the earth. Yet, Heavenly Father reached out again, in love, to provide us with a living prophet. I know that a prophet is a necessary part of the Lord's Gospel and plan for us. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and I know that each prophet that followed was the Lord's chosen prophet at the time. Today, Thomas S. Monson is the living prophet of the world. I know because I have felt the Spirit of God testify to my heart that he is God's chosen prophet today. He communicates with God and if we heed his counsel (just as we heed the words of the prophets in the scriptures) then we will be guided back to our Heavenly Father. Show more Show less

What is the Relief Society?

Many may think that Mormon women are supressed, but in reality, we are the most blessed and honored women in the world. The Relief Society is the Lord's organization for women. What a blessing it has been in my life! Relief Society is for women 18 years and older and focuses on helping the needy & each other. We build our testimonies of Christ & His Gospel, we strengthen each other and our families, and we assist in the temporal needs of others. We have the privilage of visiting particular sisters assigned to us each month. Heavenly Father wants each of His daughters taken care of so He sends a loving sister to teach, strengthen, and befriend every one of His daughters. This is a blessing from the Lord! It is inspired. I've seen countless blessing flow from the sisters I get to visit and those who visit me. I am grateful for my Heavenly Father for showing His love by providing His daughters with the Relief Society. It is truly a blessing and a strength to me and many, many women all over the world. Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Yes! It is true! Isn't that great? If you don't know for yourself, you can find out. God wanted all His children to know about Jesus Christ so He sent His Son to the Americas too. We can learn about this in the Book of Mormon and pray to know it is true! Show more Show less
