Hi I'm Reed

I'm a dad and a husband too young to have gray hair, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been very happily married for 15 years. I have five wonderful children which helps keep my life busy and fulfilling. I enjoy hunting, camping, and hanging out with the family. I grew up working on cars and motorcycles and when life settles down a little bit, I hope to pick up that hobby again. After being married for 10 years, we decided to return to school and finish up my degree. We sold our house and packed everyone off to school for a whirlwind year of education. After school, we were free to start fresh wherever we wanted, so we struck out for Texas. We lived in that wonderful state for four years and then returned to Washington. I work in construction and have been blessed with a terrific career that is challenging, but very rewarding.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a member of the church so I can't say that I have ever had reason to seriously reflect on that statement until now. When I was younger, I never questioned my membership in the church. I have always believed in my soul that it was right. As I grew older I had a chance to more fully develop that belief and was able to gain a better understanding of why the gospel is true. I love the gospel of Jesus Christ. I love its beauty, its clarity, its simplicity, and the blessings promised to us through our obedience. I have the promise of an eternal family. I have the blessing of the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. I have the blessing of personal revelation from God. I have the opportunity to be led by a living prophet of God upon the earth. That's why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in a few key ways. First, I live it with my family. I strive to be a loving father that is involved with his children and to teach them to be honest, virtuous, helpful, self-sufficient, love each other, and to have integrity and a strong work ethic. I seek to lead my family through a righteous example and through the example that Jesus Christ made for us. I also live my faith through service to others. I enjoy the opportunities we have to serve others and have been blessed immensely through that service. I have been blessed to serve both in the church and my community. I have served in many different capacities in my church. I have served in leadership roles for the young men, adults, and also served as a teacher or scoutmaster. A few things I have done in the community are clean up efforts after Hurricane Ike, painting homes, and working at gift drives for less fortunate families during Christmas. I also live my faith by observing the Sabbath Day. This is one of God's commandments that has dropped significantly in importance in the world today. In the years since my youth I have seen a dramatic shift in the observance of this simple commandment. At times the demands of my job provides moments where that commandment could easily be rationalized down to a lower level of importance. However, I have been diligent in its observance and have been abundantly blessed as a result.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

My lifestyle is very similar in many ways to everyone else's. I go to work, buy groceries, drive cars, have hobbies, etc., etc. However, I think the main difference in my lifestyle, from many I associate with, is how I choose to spend a large portion of my free time. On Sundays I go to church and spend the day with my family or visiting family and friends. I don't work or shop, or do those things that I would normally do during the week. I consider my Sundays very special and look forward to a day that is set apart from the hustle and bustle of the world and work to grow closer to my Heavenly Father. During the week, I spend one evening a week with the young men of the church. We work on Boy Scouts or service projects or just have fun activities. Each Monday evening, we hold a family night where we all gather together to sing a few songs, have a short lesson, play a game, and then have a treat. Show more Show less
