Hi I'm Sam Sanchez

My roots are deep in the Heart of Texas. I've lived, worked, and raised a family in San Antonio my entire life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm not special in the sense that I've done anything grand but my story may be of interest to someone. I've been married for 33 years and my wife and I have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. My parents are still living and are both 80 years of age. I'm a financial adviser for a large investment company in San Antonio. My interests are family, serving in my ward or congregation, mountain biking, motorcycle riding, and hummingbirds. In my professional life I get to help military families with their finances. I am in awe of the sacrifice our service members make as they serve our country. My job is rewarding for me. My work is communicating with people on the phone, and I get a great feeling of satisfaction when I can connect with a military family and help them with their finances, especially prior to the service members deployment. Before deployment there are so many moving parts for the family, it's rewarding to help them with their financial concerns and lift that part of their burden a little. I make it a point to thank the military service member for their sacrifice while ending the call and have to keep it short, because if the 'thank you' goes too long I get choked up. Service members returning from deployment have a whole different set of priorities because they may be injured. In the grand scheme it's a small thing, but rewarding for me. My company is very large and it is easy to get lost in the crowd but if we look for opportunities to serve we can make a difference.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I studied for myself what the church was about and what it offered and discovered something about myself and family I had always known but never understood. We are children of God. The gospel of Jesus Christ offered a path of discovery and structure to search and learn eternal truths. The way is straight and true. If a person studies for him or herself, I feel they can learn the same things for themselves. I've been a member of the church for more than 23 years now and have learned the language but feel there is so much more to learn that my faith is a life long quest. My faith is so much a part of who I am, I can't imagine life without the inspiration I get from living my faith. It is something very difficult to put into words but I know for certain is true...the blessings have been both spiritual and physical.

How I live my faith

I've served in the same congregation for some 23 years now. I've served in various capacities from the scouting program to leadership roles. Being an active ward member affords the opportunity to serve in the community routinely. I currently get to use my professional skills as a financial adviser helping members of the congregation get a handle on their personal finances. It is a rewarding experience as the home budget can be a vexing thing for some who've never learned basic financial skills.
