Hi I'm Susan

I am a wife, mother and grandma. I love camping, crafting, chocolate and cats. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married for 32 years to my best friend. We have four wonderful children (3 boys and a girl), 3 grand-daughters and 3 grandsons. We are empty-nesters except for our 3 cats. I love being a grandma; I love spending time with them (we live in different states so it isn't easy) and doing things for them. I also enjoy sewing, tole painting, doing scherenschnitte (paper cutting), baking and eating chocolate cake, and going camping. I think there is nothing better than being up in the mountains surrounded by family and the beauty of God's creations (unless you also have chocolate). I also deal with chronic health issues.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in Utah. I have been a Mormon all my life. I have a great-great grandmother that left Sweden and walked across the plains in a handcart company to join the Saints in Salt Lake. I feel having that kind of heritage is a responsibility. You need to understand and appreciate what was sacrificed and why. You have to ask yourself the questions, "What was so important, to her, to give up so much," and "is it important to me?" I know I am happier when I live the Gospel more fully. My family is happier, my home more full of peace and love. However, it doesn't really matter if you are "born and raised" in the Church. It doesn't even really matter if you appreciate the heritage and sacrifice of those that came before you, if you don't believe in and have the same faith in the doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as your ancestors did. Through personal experiences, through study and prayer, I have gained a testimony of the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have read the Book of Mormon many times and each time I feel the truthfulness of that book. I feel the spirit and testimony of the faithful men and women of the Book of Mormon and I am filled with gratitude that God brought it forth by calling Joseph Smith to be His servant. I believe Joseph Smith truly was a prophet called of God and the doctrine he restored through revelation is here to bless the lives of all mankind. The Plan of Salvation is God's plan for ALL of His children. He wants us back and has provided a Savior for us. God restored, through Joseph Smith, the authority and ordinances to set us on the strait and narrow path to return to Him. Knowing this gives me great hope and understanding, that no matter what I may have placed in my path to learn from and/or overcome, all is well.

How I live my faith

I love to teach the Gospel. I have been blessed over the years to teach everything from 18 month olds in the nursery to 80 year old's in Sunday School and Relief Society (the woman's organization of the Church). I have gotten up early to teach sleepy teenagers before school and loved it! I have volunteered to sew school bags to send to third world countries, sort clothes at Deseret Industries, stuff hygiene kits after Hurricane Katrina and spend Saturday mornings vacuuming in the Chapel. When our boys were young I served as a den leader and as the cubmaster. I have been a Visiting Teacher since I was a young woman. I have been helped after having babies and taught how to make perfect bread by my visiting teacher. In return, I love to take meals to the women I visit teach when they have babies or are ill and need help, and I have passed on how to make perfect bread in cooking classes for the women of the ward (what we call our local congregations). Women that I have been assigned to visit have become my best friends. Two years ago I was the camp director for the young women (12-18) of our ward. I taught the girls how to set up a tent, cook on a camp stove and use a Dutch oven. We tied knots, learned first aid and dodged giant flying bugs. It was all great fun. I love to study the scriptures. I love it when you read something that you have just been thinking about. The next thing you know, someone is giving a talk about it and what they say adds to what the Spirit has already been teaching you. I love knowing that Father in Heaven helps me and blesses me as I try to know Him and deepen my knowledge. The end result is my life is rich and full. I have had so many opportunities to serve and learn and grow that I would not have had otherwise.
