Hi I'm Dustin

I grew up in Seattle area. I received a master's in International Relations in England. I love politics and sports. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. I play bass guitar, played in a rock band for years when I was a teenager and later became a DJ at a college radio station. I attended Brigham Young University – Idaho, where I majored in History and minored in Political Science. After BYU-Idaho, I moved to Mesa, AZ and worked in the insurance industry. During that time, I applied to and was accepted into several post-graduate schools for International Relations. I chose the University of Sussex in Brighton, England. In England, I had the opportunity to study various courses pertaining to IR with my favorite being Religion, Cultures, and Civilizations in International Relations. I wrote my master's thesis on what role religion played in George W. Bush’s foreign policy. In addition, I had the privilege of traveling Europe and seeing some of the most historical and beautiful areas in the world. I currently work in the auto insurance industry while I am studying to get my MBA. I love sports including baseball, soccer and football. My passion is politics and love to follow the goings on throughout the world.

Why I am a Mormon

After pondering the complexities and meaning of life for several months, in late March, 2001, two young missionaries knocked on my door. I did not have time to let them in, but discussed with them how my brother is a Mormon and asked them to come back another time. Not thinking that two young men my age would keep such an appointment, I was surprised when they came back in April. When they knocked again, I let them in and they taught me about the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith, and the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That spring day, I felt the Holy Ghost and knew that what they were teaching me was true. I was baptized on May 27, 2001 and continue to love the Church because the feelings and blessings it brings and the chance I have to ultimately have an eternal family.

How I live my faith

Every Sunday I attend church meetings and partake of the sacramental ordinance. Throughout the month, I visit members of my ward to home teach with my companion and currently am the ward employment specialist to help those who are unemployed, underemployed or looking for a different job or career. In addition, I attend a class on the Book of Mormon every Thursday to continue learning about that wonderful book.
