Hi I'm Richard

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband of a wonderful caring wife and grandfather of 10 grandchildren. We have 5 children between us and delight in our family. My interests include tennis, fly fishing and gardening. I have developed a strong interest in recent years in roses. We have a very small home in town but I have 15 beautiful rose bushes that seem to require a lot of care. My interest in fly fishing began 25 years ago when I moved west from the southern part of the U.S.. It took me almost a year to catch my first fish but now I tie my own flies and have had wonderful success in some of the most beautiful rivers and lakes in the western United States. I make a living by working in state government and have worked in public health for over 30 years. My expertise is mathematics and I have truly enjoyed the people I have been privileged to work with over the years. Each has been dedicated to lifting the human race in some way to a better place. What a joy it is to work in such an environment.

Why I am a Mormon

I was blessed to have both parents and grandparents who were members of the mormon faith. Being raised in the church in the deep south was not always easy. For many years my family was the only members of the church in our town. I had lots of friends and always was treated with respect for my beliefs. However, at some point in my life I had to decide for myself what I believed and how I would conduct my life. At a very early age I was privileged to receive answers to my prayers and inspiration and feelings that helped my belief. I had the blessing of spending two years as a missionary in France. During those years my testimony of Jesus Christ as the Savior of the World and Joseph Smith as his Prophet became very strong. As I live as a member of the Mormon faith I realize what a great blessing it is to have the direction of living Prophets in our day and time.

How I live my faith

My faith is a guiding beacon for my life. We are truly blessed to be able to live in an area where there are many members of the Church. Each day my wife and I begin with scripture reading and prayer as part of our regular routine. I work an hours bus ride from home so each work day I am gone for 12 hours. On Monday evenings we have a family home evening even though my wife and I no longer have children home. I am currently serving as a teacher for the adult sunday school class. Each week that I teach I spend time in the evenings preparing my lesson. Our Sundays are always dedicated as the Lord's day. We attend our meetings, choir practice and sometimes meet with other members for visits. We make an effort to avoid sports and activities that would detract from a sabbath spirit. Each night before bed my wife and I kneel, hold hands and pray together for our family, church leaders and each other. This is a very special time for us that helps keep us strong and close as a couple.
