Hi I'm Vicki

I'm passionate about literacy! I just finished a Ph.D. in Reading, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a mom of five grown kids. My family is the most important thing in my life, but not the only thing! I've served in local and state councils of the International Reading Association, and I work as literacy facilitator for our school district. In our world, being literate opens many doors, and I care about helping others open those doors! Reading also opens the door to God's word, as we read the scriptures and the messages of modern prophets.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon for many reasons. I'm a Mormon because of the heritage of faith that is mine through ancestors who joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in its early days. I'm a Mormon because, as a youth I read the Book of Mormon many times and felt the Spirit witness of its truthfulness. I'm a Mormon because to me the doctrines of this church contain the logical plan that a loving Father would have for his children. I'm a Mormon because living a Mormon life gives me peace, hope, and purpose.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by offering service to others. Each day I pray that I can be an instrument in the Lord's hands, and then I look for ways to help. Sometimes it just means listening. Sometimes it means helping a friend prepare for a big event. Sometimes it means smiling at a child. I also live my faith by being a mom. Even though my children are grown, I will always be mom to my five children. Keeping our family close is harder now that we are in different states, but we send hugs across the miles as we talk and visit with each other often.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Vicki
Reading is important in my life. Reading is my hobby and my profession, and I read a lot! By far the most important reading I do is my reading of the scriptures. Reading the scriptures helps me feel peace even when things in life are unsettled. As I read the scriptures, it helps me to view day-to-day experiences through a more eternal perspective.
