Hi I'm Daryn Messervy Oliver

I'm a Mormon. I am a fourth generation member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

About Me

I enjoy helping my father-in-law with his family history. My husband and his family are not members of the Church, but they are respectful of my faith as I am with their beliefs. I attended what is now known as BYU Idaho in the 80s with studies in English. I have continued my studies in various community colleges in Oregon and Virginia, in law related courses as well as history. My husband and I enjoy travelling when we can. I love to cook and my husband & I belong to a local gourmet food group in which we get together with 3 other couples and share foods of different areas of the United States and other countries. I love animals. I enjoy helping others when I can. I enjoy sewing, cross-stitch, quilting, reading, computer graphics and writing.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I am a fourth generation Mormon on my father's side I do have my own testimony of the Church. My favorite saying is "Every thing I have learned about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I learned in Primary". Just as I have learned about the Gospel of Christ in my youth in Primary, I later re-learned as an adult member of the Primary Presidency. I believe that the Old and New Testiment are teachings of the early years of our Heavenly Father's Church and have been handed down from generation to generation until our time. Although these books of the Bible were written in ancient times they are not outdated. I believe that the Book of Mormon are the words and works of prophets here in the Americas, and also written in ancient times, they were written specifically for us. Reading the Book of Mormon is an enlightening experience and should be read often to fully understand the true meaning of the words and messages meant for us. Joseph Smith was a true Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was the first Prophet during our dispensation. I believe that Thomas S. Monson has been chosen by our Heavenly Father to be the current Prophet to lead the Lord's church at this time. I testify that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church of Jesus Christ and the gospel and teachings are designed by Him through our Prophets. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

The teachings of the gospel is designed in such a way that we all teach the same gospel at the same time, with the same materials, throughout the world. I can be in my "home" ward one week and visit my father's ward a week later and not be "lost" on what we are learning. I have had the blessings of the Church by teaching in Primary (from ages 3-12) and in Young Womens (young girls from ages 12-18). One cannot teach the children and youth of the Church without progressing and learning more about the gospel. If one can follow the commandments of the Lord, one can live in faith. If one can live in faith, one can continue to enjoy the blessings of our Heavenly Father.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Daryn Messervy Oliver
The Book of Mormon was not written by Joseph Smith, but it was translated by him through the guidance of our Heavenly Father. Joseph Smith was specifically chosen by our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to translate the Book of Mormon because he was not an educated man. He was a humble and faithful man who was able to listen to the prompting of the Lord and translte the Book of Morman throughly and correctly without embellishing or changing any parts written by the prophets of the Americas.
