Hi I'm Sylvia

I am a native Arizonian. I am married and the mother of 6 children. I am a retired elementary teacher. I am a mormon.

About Me

I was married at 17 years old the day after I graduated from high school. My husband and I have been married for 55 years. We have 6 children, 28 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. I went back to college to get my elementary school teaching degree after I had 5 children. I graduated just 4 months before our 6th child was born. After my youngest child entered school I began teaching to help suplement the family income, provide braces for our children's teeth, and help our children receive their post high school degrees. I taught school for 25 years before retiring. The last 12 years of teaching was on the whiteriver Indian Reservation. My husband and I served an 18 month mission for the Mormon Church in American Samoa where we taught religious classes to Junior College students. I like to sew, read, entertain friends and family, and decorate our home for each holiday season.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a descendant of mormon pioneers who became converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ shortly after it was restored therough the Prophet Joseph Smith. I grew up in a faithful, strong Mormon family and developed my testimony at a young age. My testimony has continued to grow through the years. I have no doubt that the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ is true. I have prayed about it and had experiences that have confirmed to me the knowledge that it is true. It is indeed a guide in my life and has been every since I can remember. I continue faithful and choose to serve in the church organization for as long as I am physically able. I know my Savior lives. I know that He died for me, atoned for my sins and that I can live with Him again someday.

How I live my faith

I serve in my church congregation as president of the women's organization. I visit seveal ladies each month to check on them and see how they are doing and leave a spiritual message. I enjoy participating in our church choir. Three days a week I spend time helping a young 12 year old boy with his homework assignments.
