Hi I'm Rob

I have faith in Jesus Christ, I love artistic creativity, I am fascinated by science and nature, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work at a university doing scientific research as a biochemist. I feel very fortunate to have this as my occupation because I am continually amazed as I learn about how living organisms work, on a molecular level. I love nature, and enjoy being outdoors experiencing the sacred beauty of all of God's creative works while hiking or backpacking in the mountains and deserts. I am also fascinated by the creative abilities that God has blessed mankind with, and I love artwork in all its forms. I enjoy painting and doing wheel-thrown pottery. I also love to read classic and modern literature, and likewise listen to classic and modern music. I hope to one day share in the sacred process of creation by having children and raising a family.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a teenager, I read the Bible (all of it!). I was so intrigued with Solomon's wisdom in the Proverbs. I was deeply inspired by how Jesus Christ interacted with people around him. And I was motivated by the epistles of his chosen apostles. I also read the Book of Mormon, and felt a strong connection to Nephi, Jacob, and Alma through their words, and their testimony of Christ as the Savior. I tried hard to live according to the teachings of Christ and his prophets, and found that my life was richly blessed by doing so. I learned to develop a relationship with God as my Father in spirit. In prayer, I asked about what I read in the scriptures, and found that my experiences were reinforced on a spiritual level, by what I would describe as a comfort and peace in my heart. This, I believe, is a witness of the Holy Ghost. I love the scriptures, and continue to have this confirmation of their truth in my life and in my heart as I continue to study them, and try my best to implement what I learn. I believe that through these words, the Church of Jesus Christ is alive in our times, and I want to be a part of it, to be considered a latter-day saint.

How I live my faith

I believe that balance is fundamental to happiness in this life. To me, this means that there is time for school, there is time for work, there is time for family, there is time for friends, and there is time for church. But no matter what I am spending my time doing or who I am with, I believe I can be an example of what I believe in, and an example of what Christ has taught me through his example. This means being honest in my schoolwork, being devoted in my labors at work, honoring my parents and being a good father and husband (someday, I hope!), maintaining good relationships with friends, and of course serving in the church in whatever capacity I can. I believe that we are all as unique spiritually as we are physically, and God has great purpose in making us this way. For me, I hope that I can use the unique combination of characteristics that I have to bless the lives of those around me in some small way.
