Hi I'm Kate Matley

I'm a wife. I'm a nerd. I'm a speech therapist. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a newlywed loving this new chapter in my life. I'm adjusting nicely to my husband taking his half of the bed from the middle and having someone to share my passions and dreams with. As a speech therapist I frequently have the opportunity to brighten someones day with a smile or a kind word. I graduated from Brigham Young University and I think our volleyball team is way cooler than our football team. My husband and I love going rock climbing together and that is in fact how we fell in love.

Why I am a Mormon

My family and my new husband mean the world to me. Through our Heavenly Father's plan I can be with them FOREVER as I keep sacred covenants (or promises) to keep His commandments and love His children. This blessing to live FOREVER with our loved ones is made possible with the restoration of the Holy Priesthood of God. The Holy Priesthood of God gives men authority to act in His name to perform sacred ordinances like sealing (or binding) a family together forever. This priesthood existed in the days of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and during and after Jesus Christ's ministry on earth. This power was taken from the earth when the prophets were killed and many truths were lost. Thankfully, The Lord has restored this power again on earth and has again given us prophets who act in his authority to lead his Church. We are called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That means we belong to Christ's church restored in these the latter-days or last days as spoken of by John in the Book of Revelations. Why do I believe all of this? That's simple. Because it is true. The spirit of the Lord has made this truth known unto me and continues to do so whenever I learn of His Gospel and make promises to keep His commandments. He asks us each to just ask Him and promises to give us a confirmation of this truth. So what if someone never has the chance to join this church? God is merciful. He has provided a way for ALL of his children to receive His gospel. We accomplish much of this through our Temples. Members go there and can be baptized vicariously (in place for) those who have died. This ensures that each of God's children will have a chance to accept or reject His Gospel. Each member does family history work to find names of those members of our families who have not had the opportunity to accept the gospel in this lifetime. We are all his children. He wants us all to make it back to him.

How I live my faith

I have a special gift for throwing parties and planning events. I've used these gifts to organize many fund raisers for needy families at Christmas time. Last year we were able to raise over $2,000 for families in our area during one 2 hour activity for our congregation of young single adults. The generosity of these young people, mostly students in college, touched my heart. I am so glad that God gave me the talent to plan and organize large events so that I can help his children help each other. I am blessed to be a part of something so special.
