Hi I'm Cody Earl

I was born and raised in Arizona. I graduated from ASU. I'm an assistant coach for the Special Olympics. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Lately I have taken up the hobby of road biking. I recently returned home from a road biking trip that involved a 3000 foot climb followed by a 5000 foot downhill ride. The up hill climb was painful, but it was really fun riding down the other side, I hit my max speed of 47 miles an hour down the winding switchbacks of Mingus Mountain heading to Sedona. I'm not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed to admit that we passed a few cars on the way down. Back when I was single, that kind of daredevil carelessness was my forte, but all of that changed when I met Kearsten. Since we've been married she has kept my feet on solid ground and has given me a new found desire to live a long happy life.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 19 my stake president, a church leader whom I admired, challenged me to read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover within a 6 month period of time. I remember one particular night that I knelt down beside my bed and asked God if this book that I was reading was true. As I continued to kneel at the side of my bed for a long time I began to get discouraged because I didn't feel any comforting feeling that gave me any reason to believe that God was answering me. I started to get really discouraged and wondered if this church I have been attending my whole life was really true. These feelings continued for about a month and then one night as I was preparing for bed I started studying the last chapter in the Book of Mormon. I studied with the intent to figure out what the author was thinking when he wrote it. I got only 3 versus in when I read "That ye would remember how merciful God has been from the creation of Adam, even down until the time when ye shall receive these things" (Moroni 10:3). At that point it all became clear to me; God want's us to know him and his path so bad that he has given countless tools to help us develop our relationship with him, I thought to my self "if this life is supposed to be a test, then why is he giving me all of the answers?" Almost as soon as I could finish this thought the answer came like a tidal wave to my soul; "because he loves me" by this time I knew that God was talking just to me. I then realized that this was the answer that I prayed to get. And like dominoes falling in my mind, I then knew that the Book of Mormon was true, and if the Book of Mormon is true I knew that Joseph Smith must have translated it, and if Joseph Smith translated it then it must be that he was acting on Gods Behalf. I knew then that everything that had been taught and established was given to me so that I could find and establish a life that is firmly built on the Atoning power of my Savior Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Just after me an my wife were married we were called as primary teachers for a group of three 9 year old kids, we loved telling stories, acting out book of Mormon skits and coloring pictures. It seems that every time I get comfortable with a calling in the church, the lord calls me to do something else. After only a year my wife was then called as a Young Womens adviser and I was asked to teach the gospel principles class. I was nervous at first but I guess since I'm kind of a chatter box any way I quickly realized that this was a great opportunity to stand in front of a live audience and freely discuss many of the things I am most passionate about. The best part was, some people even complimented me for it. Well, I guess the Lord saw that I was getting too comfortable again and after only a couple of months I was released and called to serve as the Ward Mission leader. This has been my biggest challenge yet, almost every other day I find my self planning, teaching, and praying with the missionaries so that we can bring more of our brothers and sisters to the knowledge of Jesus Christ, his atonement, and the church he restored.
