Hi I'm Kaitlyn

I call Colorado home, music an expression of emotion, and chemistry fun. I'm a missionary serving in Brazil, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I've just finished my freshman year of college as a chemical engineer. I'm happily (yes, happily) the eldest of six and grew up in love with Colorado's mountains and stars and sunsets. I am a girl of many fascinations: musically, I play piano, organ and flute, and am a Soprano II (participating in my school's Women's Chorus this past year), I coached a dive team and teach swim & dive lessons at my local outdoor pool based on my experience on my high school dive team, and love reading. The momentous announcement in General Conference, October of 2012, has changed my life plans for the better and I am currently serving a full time mission in Goiania, Brazil!

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the church all of my life- but that doesn't mean I'm just a member because it's what I've been taught. It's kinda part of growing up to decide for yourself who you are, what you believe in, what you're going to do with your life- all those deep questions you have to start answering. And I have discovered that I am truly a daughter of God. I have a Father in Heaven who loves me, and more importantly, loves those that I love (and everyone who I'm learning to love). That knowledge alone gives me a solid foundation to build my life upon. Add to that faith and trust in Christ, guidance in the form of scriptures & a present-day prophet, and the Holy Ghost to let me know what's truth, and I have a rock to build that future of mine on. I have found that the truths upon which this church is built make me a happy person- studying my scriptures with an open heart each morning makes my day so much better, as I gain refuge from hopelessness. And when you have found something that you know provides true, not-fading happiness, you want to share it with everybody around you- especially when you watch your best friends struggle with life's worst problems, and the world with its struggles. That is what I am doing as a missionary; inviting others to partake of the joy as I have, and follow Jesus Christ!

How I live my faith

In my life, I have found it most important to be a constant support, and I strive to love every one of God's children in my life. While I was at home, I taught the 3-4 year olds in my ward on Sundays- managing chaos and getting to color a lot while trying to help them understand how important each one of them is to God. As mentioned above, I am also serving an 18-month mission to Brazil. I am learning to find greater strength in my faith in my Savior, Jesus Christ, as I seek to serve those around me and to share the message of joy that has made me and those around me better people.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Kaitlyn
The Temple is my favorite place to be- personally, I feel closer to my Heavenly Father within it's pure and peaceful walls, and have been taught exactly what I have needed to understand when I ask. In my mind, I compare the temple to the best piece of literature ever written. Just as most of the classics in literature are classics because they convey ideas through beautiful imagery and teach us more about ourselves as we think (deeply) about those ideas, as I participate in sacred ordinances within the temple, and ponder about the beautiful imagery and symbolism that surrounds it, I understand more about myself and about how God loves me and can help me to become my best self. And just as reading literature again and again always brings new insights into life, as I attend the temple again and again, I gain new and miraculous insights into my life and how I can help others.
