Hi I'm Ellen Young

I am a mother to three boys. I am a wife to the most wonderful man. I love volleyball. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mom to three beautiful boys. I work from home updating websites for a small company that is getting bigger, and I am excited to be a part of that. I love to play volleyball, and I am on a co-ed team. I finished my Bachelor of Arts in Education, Special Education when my first son was five months old and received my teacher certification two days after I got home from the hospital after having my third son. This was a goal that I needed to achieve in order to be educated and be able to have a way to support my family if needed. I am married to the most fantastic person. I couldn't have dreamed up marrying a better man. Mostly it's because he has three sisters who did all of the work of helping him to know how to treat a woman like a queen, but also it's because he helps me become the person that I am striving to be. He helps me to be a better mother/sister/wife/daughter. I am a convert, but I feel like the memories I have of my life before the gospel became a part of me are dark, and now I am living in the light. I try to do better every day as a mother since that is the primary responsibility that I have in my life right now. Hopefully I am succeeding.

Why I am a Mormon

I had grown up in a home where my parents had no inclination towards wanting or needing any type of organized religion. This left me free to explore and find out for myself what I felt and believe about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I was a part of a Christian Reformed church for many years. I went to a private school and participated in the worship services, went to camp feeling very spiritually uplifted, and I went to college and attempted to join a church. I was in a building with about 2,000 other people who were singing, dancing, clapping, and laughing. I felt like something was missing. I met my husband while I was on spring break vacation in San Diego. He came up and asked my friends and I if we wanted to play frisbee with his group. We accepted and wound up enjoying our time with them so much that we spent the entire weekend hanging out. I found out that he lived only ten minutes from me, so we exchanged numbers and began dating. He asked me if I wanted to take the discussions, but it was finals week at this point, and I said no. Only one week later, two missionaries miraculously knocked on my door, and I began the discussions. After investigating this church for about five months, I receive confirmation that this was the church that I had been searching for my entire life. I had so many questions that no one in any previous church could answer or wanted to answer. When I opened up my heart to the truths that the missionaries were teaching me, I realized that I had finally found what I had been searching for.

How I live my faith

I have been a member for 10 years now, and not one day has gone by that I haven't thanked Heavenly Father for bringing this gospel into my life. I feel complete. I feel like I have found my purpose in life, and I have found a reason for my existence on this beautiful planet. I know why I came here, and I know what I need to do to get where I want to go. I love church. Since I don't work out of my home, church is where I get most of my social interaction. If I could go to church everyday, I would be in heaven! I love my calling. I teach the women on the third Sunday. I love teaching because I always learn so much, and then I am able to help others learn gospel truths. I also love being able to help someone feel like they are on the right path. The best part about church is the feeling of home in our ward. We moved a lot when we were first married, and when we moved into our current ward, we felt at home. It is filled with the most amazing, funny, weird, crazy, and beautiful people. I love everything about it. I love Facebook, and I enjoy seeing what all of my friends from high school are up to. I have really enjoyed also using it as a tool to help people see that our church is not full of polygamists or is a cult. I know that there are so many people who have misconceptions about our church, and I hope that I can do my part to decrease those beliefs. Finally, I try very hard to make my home feel like a place of refuge from the world. Now that my son is in kindergarten, I am realizing that I can't protect him all the time. What I can do, though, is to teach him to always choose the right and to know that his home is a safe place where he can leave the world behind and feel the Spirit of the Lord within these walls.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Ellen Young
The Word of Wisdom was given to Joseph Smith in 1833. It was given us to help us and guide us to keep us safe not only spiritually but physically as well. We are taught that we should partake of foods that are healthy, and we are also reminded that everything that we eat should be done in moderation. We are also taught that we should not use or eat tobacco, coffee and tea, alcohol, and drugs. When we take care of our body, we are showing Heavenly Father that we respect his creations. We are taught to treat our bodies like temples. We can do that by staying healthy, and also by showing obedience to commandments that Heavenly Father gives us. Show more Show less
