Hi I'm Jo Ellen

I live in Georgia. I started my own embroidery business after 9/11 and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a single mother of 3 wonderful boys and a grandmother of 9. What a blessing. I have worked as a manager in the food industry for many years. 9/11 was a major factor causing the company I worked for to dissolve, so I created my own embroidery business. It has never been easy to raise 3 boys on my own, but with the support of friends and family I seemed to have made it thru. All three children served honorable missions for the church and 2 have families of their own. The third has just returned from his mission. I think a close relationship with my Heavenly Father has protected me from many bad decisions I could have made throughout this time and has made my journey much more worthwhile.

Why I am a Mormon

About 40 years ago I worked with a lady who was a Mormon. We became instant friends and I wanted this wonderful quality that she had...the beautiful spirit about her was so compelling. I wanted to know what gave her this quality, so that I might develop it within myself. As we became friends, she shared the gospel with me. I was astonished that one with such a common name as Joseph Smith would be chosen as a prophet. It was a wonderful feeling to know that my Heavenly Father had not forgotten us in this day and time. A modern prophet could lead us, but wasn't sure all she was sharing with me was all true. Then actually her mother was making fun of her religion and I wanted to prove to my friend that she could possibly be wrong. The more I studied the book of mormon and what this church believed in, the more I thought how complete it was. They answered all my questions I had throughout my life. The story about Joseph Smith finding the golden plates was a big pill to swallow, but I prayed about it and knew it was true, so was baptized. The truthfulness of some things came slowly, other gospel principles were easier to understand. As I lived the things I believed in, other truths became clearer. I grew to know the same gospel that is in the old testiment and the new testiment is the same gospel restored to the earth thru the Book of Mormon.

How I live my faith

Through the years I have served in many capacities within my church. As I served in these callings, I learned how to develop positive relationships with others and mainly how my own life was enriched by trying to inspire others to live gospel principles. During the years that I worked as manager in the food industry, I felt being honest and working hard were qualities my parents taught me and were valuable in setting a good example. But the most important thing I have learned is serving others, sharing the talents and things I have with those who stand in need. I come closest to the Lord when I sacrifice my time and things I have with others who are unable to do for themselves at the moment. Since my career is in the sewing industry, I volunteer in that capacity also by doing sewing projects for the homeless, military service personel, & those overcome by natural disasters. We make quilts, stockings to be stuffed for soldiers, dresses and shirts for school children after natural disasters strike their community, etc. Doing the things I believe in makes me strong and shows others how to be honest with Heavenly Father. I am so grateful for the fulness of the gospel being restored to the earth thru the prophet Joseph Smith. I love receiving personal direction for my life thru the Holy Spirit. I don't know how to get thru the trials of life without it. I find many times my Heavenly Father fights my battles for me, and gives me direction for my little embroidery business to succeed. I love reading the scriptures everyday and find solutions to my life's concerns; protection from satin's destructive efforts; and creative ideas for my career.
