Hi I'm Jerry

I was raised in another church but was looking for a church that lived biblical teachings and I found it. I'm now a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on a farm in the panhandle of Oklahoma. My life ambition was to fly airplanes. Heavenly Father gave me that opportunity. I spent 38 years flying for the Air Force and Trans World Airlines. I have flown airplanes from WWII vintage to Boeing 747s. I am one of a few people who have a WWII medium bomber the North American B-25, on their license. I retired from TWA with almost 20,000 hours of flying time. It was a great life. Now I am a jack of all trades. I have worked for Sears, an amusement park, a electrical contractor, have been a lab assistant and service representative, a carpet company, a supervisor in the furniture factory in a maximum security prison, a 24/7 care giver and served a service mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have just learned to drive a school bus. The hardest job yet.

Why I am a Mormon

As a youth I grew up in a Mennonite church. I felt that there were activities that did not compute with what was taught in the Bible. I was taught that God loves all his children but when it came time to bring outsiders in that was not the case. Also repentance was not always accepted. When a senior in high school I took an opportunity, as the result of problems in the congregation, to voluntarily be excommunicated. I never questioned that there is a God, but it was 29 years later that I seriously prayed asking Heavenly Father if there was a true church on the earth. I promised him I would accept it and try to live by it's teachings. Within a short time I was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As the missionaries were teaching me it was like a jigsaw puzzle, the pieces began to fall into place. There were valid reasons for their beliefs and I was most impressed that being truthfully was when you where the only one who knew you being truthfully. I received a testimony that Joseph Smith did indeed see God the Father and Jesus Christ in answer to his prayer and that the Book of Mormon was truly translated by the gift and power of God. It is a true record.

How I live my faith

My start was rocky.I had a smoking problem. I knew that at some point I would have to break that problem. The day came when the leadership in our branch was changed. The brother who was called to be the new branch president ask me if I would consider being his counselor. That was the event that gave me the reason I needed to quite the smoking. I finished a pack, crumpled it up and said "I don't do that anymore" and with Heavenly Father's help I was able to break a many year habit. Since that time I have been active, serving in leadership positions and as a Home Teacher.
