Hi I'm Jerry

I'm a former CPA, teacher, principal, CEO, COO and school administrator. I'm a husband, father and grandfather. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a marathon runner looking forward to my first Boston Marathon in April 2012. I ran in the Yuma (twice), Prescott Whiskey Row, Deseret News Salt Lake and the Utah Valley Marathons and am looking forward to the St. George and Yuma Marathons and the Ragnar del Sol Relay before Boston. I enjoy cycling, fishing and spending time with my wife, children and grandchildren. I love to do yardwork and help my youngest son with his lawn mowing jobs.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born into a family of Mormons, I'm a Mormon by my own choice. When I was a kid, church attendance and worship of God took a backseat to sports, work, play and other activities that were more of a priority for my family and I. When my parents started to experience trouble in their marriage, exacerbated by the effects of alcoholism, I began to have feelings like there was a better way of life that I was missing out on. I started to attend church and began feeling happier and a calming hope despite the breaking up of my family. When my parents divorced, me and two of my five siblings moved in with my dad. I kept on going to church and appreciated the love shown to me by my youth leaders and friends in the church. I started reading the Book of Mormon with a real desire to know of its truthfulness. I got to the point where I wanted to do what is right all the time and have all the blessings that the Lord wanted me to receive. My heart was changed, my life was transformed and I had found my Savior, the source of all happiness and joy. While I did not become a perfect teenager, and have certainly not become perfect in the many years since, I continue to be happy as I try to follow Jesus and become like Him.

How I live my faith

I enjoy sharing with others the message of the Lord that brought me so much peace and happiness. I try to live every day of my life in a way that brings glory to my Savior. On my mirror I have a phrase handwritten on a sheet of simple paper which reads: "Be like Him." I enjoy teaching youth ages 16-18 in a weekly Sunday School class and helping other teachers to improve their teaching abilities. I have the opportunity each month to visit and teach two families to insure that they are well. I love attending the Temple and feeling the peace and serenity that exists there despite the demands of a tumultuous world.
