Hi I'm Ami VanderSluis

I am a mother, a wife, a teacher, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of two boys who loves books, music, exercising, and learning. I also like to do challenging things so that I can grow and become a better a person. I think that anyone is capable of doing what they put their minds to with the Lord's help.

Why I am a Mormon

I was adopted as an infant by my parents who are converts to the church. I have a tremendous amount of gratitude to them for this. I choose to continue living the gospel because it brings happiness, peace, and safety to my life. When I am doing what I can to live closer to my Heavenly Father my life is easier and I have more love for others. I believe that Jesus Christ is my Savior and was sent to this earth to atone for our sins. If we try to live righteously each day and repent when we make mistakes, we can return to live in the presence of God. Our Heavenly Father has given us this life to grow and reach the potential that he sees in us as individuals. This truth brings tears to my eyes every time I think of it! I testify that God is always near and that He hears our thoughts and needs in prayer. When I attended the temple for the first time I realized that He has been by my side since my birth, rooting for me and holding me up through every trial. I have never felt alone again since that day. Raising my children in the church and teaching them about Heavenly Father's plan for us has been a great joy to me. I know that my children have more self confidence and security because they know who they are and where they are going. In a world that can be very confusing this is a great comfort to me as a Mother.

How I live my faith

I have held many calling in the church including chorister, Young Women counselor, teacher, Cub Scout leader, and pianist. I also visit teach others in the ward to stay connected as a congregation and help with each others needs. Each of these callings have taught me things about myself and strengthened my commitment to helping others. My latest calling working with youth in the church was an eye opener! The youth are strong and faithful. Much more so than I was at their age. It was inspiring to get to know them and they were more of an example to me than I was to them. Currently, I play piano for the children during their singing time. I love hearing them sing of the gospel and Jesus Christ. Their sweet voices always warm my heart.
