Hi I'm Delbert

I'm a Mormon. I love the gospel and it's emphasis on living a Christ centered life!

About Me

Hi, I'm Delbert! I am in my late 40's and have been married for 26+ years. I have 1 son and 2 daughters as well as 2 grandchildren. I enjoy serving others in my church and community. I served an LDS mission to Taipei, Taiwan in the 1980's and learned Mandarin Chinese, though it is VERY rusty now!

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints my entire life. I continue to be active in the church not because of tradition or pressure from others, but because I love the gospel of Jesus Christ and have gained a testimony of his Divinity through many years of study, prayer and personal experiences. My wife and I have experienced the loss of children and have suffered from many health concerns which have tried our faith. In the end our faith has been strengthened by the teachings of the church and the knowledge that our family is not just a temporary organization. Whenever tempations come along, though we sometimes struggle greatly, we know that through living the principles taught by Jesus Christ and his prophets throughout the ages the rewards will be beyond our current comprehension. I have had many experiences where the comforting influence of the Holy Ghost has confirmed beyond doubt that the principles that we believe are true and genuine. Anyone that sincerely wants to know the truth of gospel principles can find out for themselves by study, prayer and that same spiritual influence.

How I live my faith

In the church I currently serve as an assistant in the leadership of the older group of men of the church in our ward. We try to be aware of the many widows and those who have illnesses and difficulties and do what we can to help them both with their physical needs and to give them encouragement in their struggles. I also serve in the temple as a volunteer worker to help those who come to serve there. This service is the highlight of my week to be able to go and serve in the Lord's house. His love and spirit abound there and help to ease the cares and worries of life. In general I try to be the best I can to be a good example of Christlike virtues and attributes. I am by no means anywhere close to perfect, but I try continually to do the best that I can. I do my best to BE a good Christian and not just someone who professes to be. I believe firmly that our actions speak louder than any words we can say, and I take that challenge as a personal reminder to live my life as the Savior would have me live. I make many mistakes and errors and it is always to struggle to live the way I know I should, but through constant effort and the atonement of Jesus Christ, I am able to repent and do a little better each day.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Delbert
No. In fact, when there is a major disaster or crisis almost anywhere in the world, the Mormon church is one of the first to arrive with both manpower and necessary supplies to help those in need. Many times this assistance is given in places where there are not any established congregations of Mormons or even those of the Christian faith. This service is done quietly and we do not seek the attention of the media. We believe that service at its best is done without recognition or reward, but because it needs to be done and we have the means to do it. Show more Show less
