Hi I'm Brent

I am a husband, a dad, a grandpa, a dentist and I'm delighted to be a Mormon.

About Me

I am a morning person. I grew up in a farming community in central Washington state. I have 5 brothers and a sister and they are still some of my best friends. Each of us boys became Eagle Scouts. I love to work with people. My favorite memories as a boy is working in the beet fields with my brothers. We could pick up sprinkler pipe faster than most adults. I work best as a team member. I am married. My dear wife and I have 5 daughters. Four are grown and have homes of their own. One daughter is left at home to finish high school. I prefer having my home filled with the sound of growing and maturing children. My grandchildren are the best! We love to dunk cookies in milk. I used to hunt deer and elk for food. Nearly froze to death. Now I prefer taking pictures of wild life and vacation scenes. I love to watch and identify birds. I grow a raspberry patch and make raspberry jam. I am a dentist. I find it satisfying to help each patient have a positive dental experience. I served 4 1/2 years as a Navy Dentist in Great Lakes, Illinois, Keflavik, Iceland, and Bremerton, Washington.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe God lives today. In the Bible God spoke to his servants, the Prophets. I believe He still has that power and ability. More than ever I think this world needs the input from God, our Creator. Because he loves us he gives us counsel through living prophets. I grew up being taught the words of the prophets in the Bible, the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ, and from the living Prophets. I learned to know the sound of these living prophet's voices. As I faithfully applied their words in my life I became very familiar with the warm burning sensation in my heart that their messages were truly for me from my Father in Heaven. They taught me that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is my Savior and that through His Atonement, all my sins are cleansed from me if I repent and live my best. I just have to love Him enough to give Him my sins, live His teachings, and go about doing good. I learned that as I serve my fellow man I am only in the service of my God. I feel God near me as I keep His commandments and live His teachings. I also know God's voice in my heart. He confirms to me personally the truthes I bring to Him in my prayers. Living the commandments brings safety and liberty to my soul. I live for the day I will merit to live again in God's presence in heaven with all my family (parents, siblings, my wife, children, their children...). I hope that my friends will also choose to be in God's presence too. I am doing and will do all I can to receive the blessings of the atonement. The Atonement truely erases my sins as I do my best to repent and it also mends the hurt from offenses and day to day errors caused by others. It lets me feel heaven's peace, love and vigor here on earth and in eternity.

How I live my faith

I love to live my faith. I get to do it every day, all day. We pray as a family morning and night and at each meal. We also share scripture reading as a family each morning (about 10 minutes) after prayer. I strive to keep a prayer in my heart all day. The feeling in my heart is like a barometer to me. When I am kind and keeping to God's path I feel His warmth in me. If I stray in deed or thought the warm feeling fades. Kind and sincere words and actions bring me closest to God. We send our children to public school. Daily in High School my children have an hour release time to attend Seminary where they are taught a lesson on church studies. That is such a blessing for them to have a predictable, positive and uplifting God centered learning experience each school day. We participate in sports, sister city activities, booster club meetings, and dental meetings. On Sunday I teach a Primary class (Sunday School for children) and I sing in our church choir. Overall, the peace in my life comes from applying God's guidance in healthy living, obstaining from habbit forming substances, faithfully upholding my wedding promises to my wife in thoughts and deeds, getting enough rest, and helping others.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Brent
Absalutely!! God had prophets anciently. He loves us just as much as people who lived in Bible times. We are all His children. And He certainly has the ability to speak to prophets today. The question is, "Will we listen to His living prophets?" Live the counsels from President Monson and you too can know the gentle warm confirmation in your heart that I feel in mine that he is God's prophet today. Show more Show less
