Hi I'm Joyce

I'm a home school mom, an amateur cake decorator, a gardener, and I enjoy handicrafts. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy sewing, crocheting, cooking, sketching, reading, playing basketball with my kids, playing volleyball, and playing softball. I enjoy playing the piano and love to sing...music is a big part of my life. I also like to garden, unless it is too hot! (July and August in the Southwest!) I decorate cakes for my family and occasionally for friends. I enjoy traveling and have been to South America and Mexico several times. I also speak Spanish. I've been married to a wonderful husband for almost 14 years. I have four beautiful children that I home school. Each day is a very busy adventure!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family. My mother joined the LDS Church when she was 19 and my father was a lifelong member. I grew up with a knowledge of our Heavenly Father's plan for me and for each one of his children. My parents taught me the gospel through the scriptures, through their daily examples of Christ-like living, and through actively participating in the LDS Church. When I was fourteen, I came to a point where I wanted to know for certain that the things I was learning were true. I read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover and then got on my knees to ask my Heavenly Father to confirm the truthfulness of the Book. I felt the Holy Ghost witnessed to me that the Book of Mormon was the Word of God and that the Gospel of Jesus Christ had been restored in our day. All my life, as I have tried to live the teachings of Jesus Christ, I have learned time and time again that obedience to God's commandments only brings me blessings, joy and peace. I love to read the Bible and the Book of Mormon and when I do, I am reminded that the principles of God are eternal...they never change and because of that, these ancient texts of Scripture help me on a daily basis to lift me and strengthen me. I know that God lives and that he loves each one of us here on the earth, his children. I know Jesus Christ is our Savior. I love His gospel and am grateful for His restored church.

How I live my faith

I love the fellowship of the families in my congregation. The other members strengthen me as I know that we are all doing our best to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I enjoy attending meetings with the women where we learn new skills or listen to spiritually uplifting messages. We attend church each Sunday as a family and the Sabbath is a special day for us as we rest from our weekly work and have extra time for scripture study, family time, and other Gospel pursuits. In my own family, we try to hold daily scripture study and daily family prayer. We also hold a Family Home Evening each Monday, where one member of the family teaches a Gospel-centered lesson. We pray, we sing, we have a fun activity, and then we end it with a treat! We all take turns being in charge of a part of the Family Home Evening. It is one of the highlights of our week and brings us closer together as a family. I also enjoy service as a Cub Scout Den Leader. Our congregation charters a Cub Scout Pack and it is my responsibility (and my co-leader's) to run the den meetings and teach the 8-year old boys something new each week. I really enjoy working with the boys and participating in the Scouting program. I am also a visiting teacher, which means that with a partner, I am assigned to visit other women in my congregation. We visit with three sisters at least once a month, or as often as needed. We share a gospel message with them and help them out if they have any needs. Another partnership is assigned to visit me. Some of my best friends I have gotten to know through this program of watch care. I really love this program and truly enjoy the messages my visiting teachers share and the fellowship they give me.
