Hi I'm Uwe

I am a native German and a Geology Professor. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Germany and have a wonderful wife of 30 years. We have 7 children and currently 16 grandchildren. Because we had the opportunity as a whole family to return to my native country for several years, we are all bilingual (German, English). I hold a Ph.D. in geology and teach at a large metropolitan institution of higher education in the Western part of the United States. My hobbies are playing guitar, making music with the family, going four-wheeling in the mountains, gold-panning, mineral & rock collecting, landscaping and ancient Hebrew culture, customs and language. I also love to write children’s books which include symbolism and riddles to solve, leading to self-discovery of morals, values and virtues.

Why I am a Mormon

At age 16 in Germany I converted from my tradition imposed Lutheran faith to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). Why? Because God answers prayers, any sincere prayer about anything! There is a reason why Christ made the statement: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” (Matthew 7:7,8) Sometimes you have to be patient and continue to “seek” and "knock" in all sincerity, but the answer will come. Of that I am sure, because it happened in my life myriads of times and it continues to happen. Not only in matters of religion, such as “which Church to join?”, or “is Christ really the Messiah?”, “does HE live and love me?”, but also in very private questions from school, to employment, to marriage and partnership, to child rearing. The applications are endless and so are my experiences with prayer. I can now say that I know that Christ indeed lives, he is in actuality the Son of God, and that He loves and cares for every single individual here on earth, Christian or not. Through prayer I know that HE has again established HIS Church here on earth in a real sense to bless all mankind with ultimate freedom and happiness. I am a Mormon because of these personal, powerful and undeniable experiences with real answers to prayers.

How I live my faith

I find joy and peace by trying every day to base my life on the example and teachings of Christ. HE knew that each one of us is God’s greatest creation, and that we all are precious in the eye of God. Looking for the good in people is an important aspect. My idea of living my religion is to make the world a little better every day by touching someone and showing them exactly that there is always hope, that they do indeed matter and that each and everyone is of worth. Because when people truly feel loved and appreciated, they usually change and make positive differences in their own and other people’s lives. I like to sow little morsels of truth about life, living, love, and charity among my fellow men. And I am a strong believer in the “pay it forward” principle, to pass good deeds along to the next person in need.
