Hi I'm Jonathan

I am a baseball umpire, I am a violinist, I am serving as a missionary in New York, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Jonathan. I graduated high school in 2012. I love to umpire baseball! I have been doing this since I was 12 years old and I have umpired for multiple little leagues. One of my favorite parts is throwing people out on close slide into home plate. I worked as a busser at a wing restaurant. I played varsity volleyball in High School and in addition to this, I was the concertmaster in my chamber orchestra there. I am a talented violinist and have played since I was 8 years old. I have played in Carnegie Hall, in the Subways in New York, on the streets of Brooklyn and Queens, and in churches! My family comes first in my life. I love spending time with my dad fixing up our 1971 Chevelle Malibu. I return home from my mission in NY, I will study Psychology and Statistics.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the principles and doctrines that are taught in this church help me to reach my full potential in this life as well as in the life to come. I am able to become closer to my Father in Heaven and become more like Him. Because of this church, I know who I am, why I am here, and where I am going. I know my divine potential as I continue to keep the commandments of God. I understand that I am a son of God and that He loves me and cares about me in every way. He helps and supports me through every hardship in my life. I truly have felt His hand in my life and I don't know where I would be without Him guiding my life. The power of the Holy Ghost has manifested unto me that this is Christ's only true church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by simply being happy! Of course life brings many challenges, anxieties, and pains, but because I understand God's plan and have an eternal perspective, I find the joy in every moment. My faith in God and Jesus Christ have changed the way I see myself and others. Principles such as (the basics fundamentals) prayer, scripture study, church attendance, and wholesome family recreation help me to continue in faith and happiness.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Jonathan
I have encountered many people in my life who have struggled or are currently struggling with Same-Gender Attraction. Please know that no matter what, God's love for that person NEVER changes, and our's should never change either. We believe that expressing/acting on homosexual thoughts and desires is a serious sin and must not be pursued. Being attracted to the same-sex is a real thing and a real struggle for some people. However, through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, a person struggling with this issue can overcome it and keep the emotions that he/she feels from getting out of hand. I know it. If the thoughts are kept under control and are not acted upon, that individual does not have to feel that they are sinning. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Jonathan
I have encountered this question a lot amongst peers and other friends, and I totally understand why a person would ask this question. Speaking of and about Joseph Smith occurs frequently in our churches as well in the discussions with the missionaries, but Joseph Smith is not who we worship. We worship non other than God the Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ, the Savior and Redeemer of the world. It is through Joseph Smith that Jesus Christ restored His gospel after it was distorted and eventually lost. It is through the prophet Joseph Smith that I have come to know my Savior, Jesus Christ, in a more personal way by his example and translation of the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

Jonathan
Your body is so sacred! It is divine, the image of God, the temple to your spirit. God has a perfected body and He has given a body to us so we could learn and grow to become as happy as He is! He has given us the Law of Chastity, which prohibits any sexual activities outside the bonds of marriage, for our happiness. I love the Law of Chastity. If you will obey this law you will find rich blessings such as self-confidence, a positive attitude, increased self-control, and most importantly you will feel comfortable in God's presence. I promise you in the name of Jesus Christ, that if you will obey the Law of Chastity you will feel God's presence so much more than you ever have! If you are being sexually active against the guidelines of you Father in Heaven, change now! Repent. God's love never changes towards you. Show more Show less
