Hi I'm Sommer

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love learning about health, nutrition and wellness. I struggled with asthma and stomach problems growing up which got me interested in learning how to feel good without relying only on medicine. I was a licensed massage practitioner for many years. I loved helping others overcome stress related illness and physical injuries through massage. I currently teach classes on the therapeutic benefits of essential oils. I am a mother of 2 amazing kids. I felt like becoming a mom for the first time was a huge shock to the system. I didn't have very much experience with babies before I had my own and went through a little bit of postpartum depression with my first. I also didn't realize how to give my all to something or someone. It was really hard to get used to, but looking back I love the learning curve it has been. I am pregnant with my third child now and am super excited.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a family with a complicated relationship to the LDS Church. In my home I don't remember being taught much about religion, but much of my extended family are mormon. When someone from the church would knock on the door we would hide. My dad is not a member of the LDS church and used to feel happy that I didn't attend church with any regularity, even though I was baptized in the LDS church at age 8. When I was a senior in high school a friend of mine invited me to go sledding. Another friend in the same group invited me to church and later to a seminary class which met every school day. That year in seminary they were studying the New Testament. The teacher encouraged everyone to read scriptures at home everyday. I began to do that and I felt like my view of the world turned around. I stopped participating in things that made me feel bad. I started feeling a peace I had never felt. I had more self-esteem and confidence. I was happier than I had ever remembered feeling. I was so excited about life and knowing who I was and why I was here. I wanted everyone to feel as good as I did. That gave me a desire to serve a mission to teach people who maybe felt like I had--not so much joy or hope, just stuck. My full-time missionary service ended some time ago, but I continue to serve in my church because I know that I have a Father in heaven who created me and who wants me to be happy. His son Jesus Christ lived to show us a better way, to help each other and love people. Jesus died so that we don't have to be stuck in sin. So we can be clean again and feel free and new. Families can be happy and together forever. Life is amazing and that is how God wants us to feel. I am grateful to know that.

How I live my faith

I believe that I live my faith by getting to know those around me, by being friends with my neighbors and helping them with daily things. I like to organize community potlucks so we can get to know each other. I serve in church with kids from 18 months to 11 years, in the Primary organization. I organize classes, teach lessons, train new teachers, and meet regularly to go over how to help Primary work the most effectively for the children. I pray daily, read scriptures daily, and do the same with my family.
