Hi I'm Doug

My greatest joys in life come from my family, the temple, and my life as a Mormon!!!

About Me

I am a husband, a father, a grandfather. I enjoy activities with my family, especially if it involves the lake, the ocean, and the great outdoors. However, the greatest joys in my life have been in the temple with my family!!!

Why I am a Mormon

Over 30 years ago, as a college student I asked a girl that I was dating "If she would ever marry me?". After a few moments of silence, she answered, "No." I then asked her, "Why?" She then responded, "Because you can't take me to the temple." I then asked, "What's a temple?" For the next several hours she shared with me her love for the temple, and the commitment she made to herself that she would be married in the temple. At this point in my life, my only understanding of the Mormons was that Donnie and Marie were Mormons. The following Sunday I went to church with her. Over the next few months I proceeded to investigate the church and met with Mormon missionaries to learn more about the Mormons. Six months later I was baptized and became... "A Mormon". Almost 20 months from the day that I asked this girl, "If she would ever marry me?", we were married in the temple in Los Angelos. We have been together for over 30 years now!!! We have raised 5 beautiful and talented children, and now have 4 grandchildren. The temple has always been a significant part of our lives. Our family has been so blessed by the temple.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by going to church every Sunday, by communicating with my Heavenly Father through prayer multiple times through out each day, by reading from the scriptures on a daily basis, by activily participating in my church assignments, and by going to the temple on a regular basis. I have found through living these simple principles of faith I am able to enjoy life even through the many challenges that life brings.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has more than 100 operating temples around the world. Visitors are welcome to visit the temple grounds at all of these temples and attend open houses prior to dedication. However, only baptized members who are qualified and prepared are allowed to enter a temple after it is dedicated. In temples, Church members participate in ordinances designed to unite their families together forever and help them return to God. In the temple, members: ■Learn eternal truths. ■Receive sacred ordinances, including those that bind husband and wife together for eternity, as well as join children and parents (Malachi 4:5-6). ■Provide ordinances such as baptism for those who have died without the opportunity to receive the gospel of Jesus Christ.
