Hi I'm Marty

I work for an International Construction Company located in Lombard, IL. I live in San Antonio Texas. I am a Mormon Convert.

About Me

I was born in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in the Seattle, WA area. I graduated from Hazen High School in Renton, WA and I have a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. After School, I took a job in Boise ID, returning to the Northwest. Being in Construction, I moved a bit. I have lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado,, South Carolina, Maryland and now Texas. We have plans to move to the Chicago area soon. I am married with 2 teenage daughters. I had my children later in life and wonder why I waited so long. They have been such a joy to my life. In my younger days I really enjoyed skiing. I now ride a motorcycle when I am in Texas. As a traveler, I look forward to every moment I have with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was an agnostic until I was in my late thirties. I had a dislike for organized religion. It seemed too money driven. It was more of a business than a spiritual organization. Preachers were picked for telling us what we want to hear; doesn't have to be the truth. I began thinking that maybe there was something else out there in my late thirties. I had worked around Mormons for years and admired their confidence and sense of direction. I met my wife and immediately hit it off with her. It seemed like we had known each other for years. She said she wanted to be married in the temple. I guess my heart had softened to the idea and started thinking about it. In the meantime, we were married in a Civil ceremony "till death do us part". As I investigated the Church, I found it was not driven by money. No one was paid to preach to us. The Mormons are all about practicing what you preach. We are very practical. My actual conversion occurred on our Honeymoon in Hawaii, I was on the lanai thinking about the future and it came to me Loud and Clear, "Join the church, take charge of the family and have children". This was my first real answer I can remember receiving from Heavenly Father. I took the missionary discussions when we returned and was baptized at the age of 39. The church has added direction and stability to my life. No regrets.

How I live my faith

Being a Mormon is a way of life, not just a Sunday event. We are active in the Church. My wife is in the Stake Young Women's presidency and my daughters are active in the Young Women's organization. I recently was released as the secretary for the High Priests Group. We believe we are blessed for our efforts of service. We bring Jesus and Heavenly Father into all our big decisions in life. I pray every day and I have a testimony that when you pray for those who may seem against you, their hearts will turn. I believe service is the cornerstone of our religion. We believe in being prepared and ready for emergencies.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

The Bible is the anchor. The Book of Mormon is another testament to Jesus. My favorite scriptures are Mathew Chapter 22, 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love‍ the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is‍ like unto it, Thou shalt love‍ thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law‍ and the prophets.
