Hi I'm Ryan

I love camping, indie rock, and spy movies. I'm a computer programmer, a college football fan, a doting father, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the first of four children and was raised in a suburb of Seattle. I went to one year of college in Idaho before serving a church mission in Texas, on the border of Mexico. I then went to Hawaii for another year of college, which is where I met my beautiful wife. I finished up my Math degree in Utah and have since been working as a computer programmer for a government contractor based out of Colorado. I have two daughters, a toddler and a newborn, so I am way out-numbered by girls at home! I love camping, mountain biking, indie rock music, spy movies, comedy TV shows, college football (Go Cougs!), and having fun with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am grateful to have been raised by wonderful, Mormon parents who taught me these principles from a young age, and who were patient with me during times I struggled with following those principles. Their faith and teachings gave me a foundation that allowed me to gain my own understanding and belief in Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father's plan for us. Prayer, scripture study, and listening for the Holy Spirit to answer my prayers and questions have confirmed to me that the Mormon faith is true, we have a prophet on the earth today, Jesus Christ lives, and that through Him I can be saved. I think that knowing a prophet of God lives on the earth to guide us gives me the most comfort. I don't know how I would be able to navigate through this tough life without that sort of guide, along with the scriptures and the fellowship that comes from participating in church activities. I know our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love each of us, and have given us these resources to guide us back to live with them and our families.

How I live my faith

I try to live my life according to the teachings of Christ; with integrity, love and concern for others, adherance to the commandments. I also try to have fun, realizing that the relationships I create here in this life can continue into eternity, if I remain worthy of that blessing. As a family, we attend church each Sunday, pray and read scriptures together, and try to be good neighbors and friends to those around us. I have been assigned to serve in my local congregation, ensuring that the men and their families have their temporal and spiritual needs met. I visit them in their homes, provide service to them in sickness or need, council with them to serve others, and encourage them to follow after Christ's example to us. Other assignments I have had in the past have included working with the young men in Boy Scouts, helping to keep local leaders organized as a secretary, helping to manage finances in the local congregation, and teaching lessons out of the scriptures during Sunday meetings. Though these assignments can take time and effort, I have felt great joy and discovered new talents from this service.
