Hi I'm Tom

I grew up in Alaska, served a full-time chruch mission in St. Louis, Mo, I love my savior, and I'm a mormon.

About Me

I'm studying at an LDS university. I like to learn about nature and how the things that God created work. I recently got married and will celibrate our 6 month aniversary in a week! My wife and I met in a chemistry class, the first week I asked for her number but was so nervous that entered it in my phone wrong. We were sealed in the Timpanogous Temple in Utah. We decided together that we wanted our marriage to be eternal, so we decided that we'd need to be sealed in a Temple, a place like ancient times what God has made holy. This kind of marriage is different from all others, becuase my wife and I did this we have a perspective that helps us in the decisions that we make. I do not believe that we'd have that blessing if we were only married "until death do you part." like all of God's promises the blessing of a sealing is open to all who will follow Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

Christ said, "He that findeth his life shall loose it, and he that looseth his life for my sake shall find it." The journey of deciplleship is a long proccess that requires many changes, it has sometimes taken me a while to make some of those changes, and is taking me longer still to make others. I am a deciple of Christ though, a follower of Him. It is so easy to become confused and not know where the path is that He walked, the only thing that has lead me to it is seeking Him. It's an action that we have to take but when I kneel and asked God what direction to take I've had answers. One turning point in the path that God has lead me on is to show me that God has a prophet here on earth. I have a knowledge that God speaks with him. His name is Thomas S. Monson. I am a member of this Church becuase of that. In Ephesians 2:20 we are told that we can be built apon apostles and prophets, with Christ as the Chief corner stone. God has lead me to that.

How I live my faith

To go along with my importnant duties as a Husband, God has asked me to help with other individuals in my congrigation to find work. In my Ward (congrigation) we call this an employment specialist. Most of the people in my ward are also students like me. It's a unique challenge to help them find an employment that helps them make ends meet, but doesn't require to much time so that they are able to focus on schooling. This opportunity for service has been a more valuable education proccess than the classes I attend each week day.

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Tom
I few years before I served My mission (2 years in St. Louis) I went to my parents and told them that I wanted to go. My parents asked me what I was going to do to be able to do this. I told them that I wanted first to be sure that I was doing the right thing, so I'd prepare spiritually, but I also told them that I was going to start working to save for it. I started when I was 14 at the boy scout camp in my area, working summers, as the years went on I worked as an ice cream scooper, a sales asocciate, parking lot supervisor, and even a babysitter. I would say one of the best bennifits of my misison was actually gettting prepared for it. I'm glad that God in his wisdom does things that way. When I turned 19 my parents had agreed that I should save my money for life afterwards and said that they appreciate the work I put forward for getting ready, but that they wanted to support me finacailly through it. Throughout the church most missionaries either support there own way through the mission or family and very close friends help them along the way. Show more Show less
