Hi I'm Maria

I grew up in Otara, Auckland, NZ. I became a teacher to make a difference. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in an area considered by many as one of the roughest areas - South Auckland, New Zealand. I graduated from Auckland College of Education in 2000 with a BEd in Teaching. I moved to Australia in 2005. My current hobbies are spending quality time with my siblings and their families, scrapbooking (new at it), singing, dancing and outing with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

Like many children, you are born and raised in whatever religion your parents are currently attending. Throughout my childhood my parents taught me the importance of not only knowing of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, but to truly understand who they are and why they will always play an important part in my life if I choose to follow them. During my youth years, I knew I had to find out for myself if what I was being taught was true. Up until then, I had what I would call a borrowed testimony, meaning I only believed because my parents believed, so I borrowed their testimony. Then, I knew it was time for me to know for myself. I began to ponder and search the scriptures to increase my understanding of the doctrines of the gospel. When the time was right, I prayed to my Father in Heaven. I asked him to confirm unto me, if what I had read and been taught were true. A calm feeling came over me. My mind was enlightened and I felt in my heart that what I was taught and read were true. I knew from that day forth that the church is true. People have asked me if my religion is forcing me not to drink or smoke. I simply say, “No. It is a choice I’ve made.” I have made covenants with my Father in Heaven. I know that he will always help me to strive and keep these covenants on a daily basis as I go through life full of trials and tribulations. I have no doubt that the church is true. I will strive each day to learn of, teach others of and apply to myself the teachings of Jesus Christ. My goal is to return and live with my Father in Heaven. I know that every choice I make here on earth will decide how close to my goal I will be.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to keep the basics. Say my prayers day and night as well as do scripture reading (I’m working on reading the scriptures daily), keep the Sabbath Day holy and so forth. I currently serve as a Young Women Leader in my Ward and I love every minute of it. I teach/oversee girls ages 14-15. I have been blessed with many gifts/talents. To show my appreciation to my Father in Heaven for what he has given me, I strive to serve Him with all my heart, might, mind and strength.
