Hi I'm Andrew

I am a husband, father, math teacher, part-time soldier, uni student and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I wear quite a few different hats during my week. I married my lovely wife seven years ago and we have two sons who of whom we are very proud. I work at a high school teaching mathematics and do my best to make it entertaining. I am a part-time soldier with the Army Reserves, it's nice to receive instructions when you spend your day giving them to students. I am studying part-time at uni to get my Masters of Education to increase my employment options. I have spent many hours at home landscaping the yard to make things look nicer. If I am really lucky I get out for a round of golf and my best score ever is 50, sadly that is for only 9 holes. I also volunteer my time at church to plan service projects and activities that are fun and uplifting. I enjoy comedy and science-fiction shows and playing boardgames with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

As a teenager I had hoped that the church wasn't true. That sounds terrible to me now, but I knew that if the church was true that it would mean committing my life to Jesus Christ and I wasn't 100% sure that was what I wanted back then. I was lucky to have good friends and family who encouraged me to read The Book of Mormon. As I read it my doubts and fears were replaced by faith in Christ. I remember praying to ask if it was true and feeling my heart beating very strongly, I knew that was the Spirit telling me it was true. Since then I've had many experiences that have confirmed that answer to prayer. I'm glad to know that Heavenly Father has a plan for each of us to live in happiness here and also that there is life after death. I love my family very much and the church is all about families being together forever.

How I live my faith

I am a leader in my ward which means I organise lessons and activities for men over the age of 18. My wife and I appreciate having the opportunity to attend church so easily as we once lived 880km from the nearest branch. It's uplifting to attend church and see so many others who share our faith and are striving to live like the Saviour. We have family night on Mondays which our sons look forward to each week. There is a short lesson, songs, games, treats and a prayer at the end. I happily answer peoples questions about our church but struggle when people expect a simple answer to a complicated question. I just try my best each day to do what I know is right and give my family every opportunity that I can.
