Hi I'm Neil

I started and own a landscape business, our family likes to spend time outdoors riding ATVs and target shooting and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and i have been married 31 years we have 5 children, 4 married and our youngest serving a mission for our church. We feel very fortunate that all of our children live within a few miles of our home so we have family over very often. My wife is a fantastic cook, when we have family over we like to BBQ, grill meat, and eat Mexican food. We like to watch sports as a family and have season tickets to the local college football team. I own a landscape business so landscaping and gardening are some of my hobbies. Our family loves the distinct beauty of the desert and we like to spend time there, riding ATV's, target shooting, taking hikes and exploring. Family vacations were a big part of raising our family, we love amusement parks, the boys liked camping but the girls not so much, but now they are married they are beginning to enjoy. The boys in the family got their camping fix by participating in scouting activities, and an occasional hunting trip. Family is the most important thing to my wife and I and our efforts are united in keeping the family close together.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into an active Mormon family, and I enjoyed growing up in the church, the teachings made sense to me and I saw that my parents activity in the church brought them happiness. Before I served a mission for the church I had to find out if it was true. I read the Book of Mormon and after study and prayer I believed that it was true, it brought peace to my life. My conversion to the church did not come as a single event but more of a gradual growth, one truth building upon another, one experience or feeling of the Spirit at a time, until all doubt was dispelled from my mind and soul. One concept that is dear to me is how the atonement or sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ, does more than take away my sins, His perfect life and sacrifice enabled him to be able to take away all of my hurt, shortcomings, sadness, and sorrows. Another concept of the gospel is that through proper authority families can be united not only for this life but for the life hereafter. With the love I feel for my wife, children and grandchildren this truth brings me great happiness and comfort. The teaching of the church regarding where we came from, what is the purpose of this life, and where we go after this life give me peace and have helped me deal with the passing of friends and family. I understand why there is hardship and sadness in this life, why we experience difficulties, why challenges come to good people and with this knowledge it brings me peace in the challenging world we live in.

How I live my faith

I have always been active in the church and have enjoyed the callings or assignments that I have been given. I try to show my faith and commitment to Jesus Christ in all aspects of my life. I have had many opportunities to work with the youth of our church, particularly in the Boy Scout program, Scouting was important when I was growing up and my Scout Master had a great influence on me, so I feel that I need to give back to the scouting organization . Service is one of the great opportunities that I have had in the church, we have worked on church farms, in church canning facilities, in neighborhood cleanups, visiting the sick and elderly, and in all of these projects it has been a blessing to help others, make friends and spend time with my family. I now have the opportunity to serve as a bishop of our ward or congregation, the church is unique in many ways, our congregations are formed geographically, also there is no paid ministry in the church, and we do not seek for nor are we particularly educated for the callings or opportunities we have to serve, so this creates many chances for us to serve each other, it is a very hands on church. I am grateful for the chance I have to work with the individuals in our congregation, but it is not a job I could do alone, so I am so thankful for all the others in our ward that do so much to try and bring the blessings of our Savior's gospel to our friends and neighbors. I am truly bless by so many friends and family.
