Hi I'm Parkes

I am a family man, retired military, hospital manager, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a large family, the oldest of 14, where I learned something about the struggles of life--having enough resources for food, for heat, for running water. Once we had the basics, I learned that I really had a lot of choices to make life better for myself and others. My own preparations included a college education, serving a church mission, serving in the military, starting my own family, and pursuing a management career. Through those choices I learned more about the principles of life--hard work, sacrifice, enduring failures, and enjoying successes. Those qualities and experiences have given me a great love of life and for each one of my seven children and 29 grand children! Even though I am still learning, I feel like the richest and happiest man in the world!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who were Mormons, however I wanted to find out for myself about Mormon beliefs. When I was 14 I struggled to find meaning in my life, my family, and my school. During my search for answers I began testing the Mormon beliefs--that there is a God who can hear and answer prayers for anyone who has faith in Him. From my own prayers I began to feel a great peace and purpose for my life--so much so that I wanted to be a missionary and tell others about it! I ultimately came to know that He has a plan for me and that as I follow Him I feel happiness in my life. I can return to live with Him and with my family. That is why I am a Mormon!

How I live my faith

In God's plan for me I realized that my responsibilities are all connected to me and the people that God has placed in my life--my companion, my family, my employer, my community. I also learned that the best ways to fulfill each responsibility can be found in the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. As I have searched for examples in the scriptures I have been able to find the things I need to do in every situation. The experimenting with eternal principles and the practice of daily prayers have become part of my life. The results have been amazing to me! With changes in colleges, hospitals, military units, house sizes, I have moved 28 times! Through all of those changes and moves from the western states to New York and back, I have seen the influence of God in my life and in my family. We have been watched over, strengthened by our challenges, and have felt the love of family and a Heavenly Father!
