Hi I'm John

I grew up in San Diego, I'm a Navy brat, a Marine, an environmentalist and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a father of three children, own two dogs and a ball python. My wife and I have been married for twenty years and enjoyed the journey so far. I enjoy reading aloud to my children and wife and have recently taken up road biking (cycling) to maintain my health because my knees just won't take the beating any longer. Currently I am working full time as a federal employee and attending an online college program to get my masters degree.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because it provides peace of mind and because the beliefs are unflinching and unapologetic about who we are and what we believe. I'm one of only two members of my family that is still active at church. I have remained active for a number of reasons but the key reason is that I have seen and felt the spirit of the lord direct my life. At key crossroads in my life members of the church have showed up in my life and pointed me down the path I should follow. When I have chosen to follow the path I found that though it was not always easy the Lord was there to buoy me up when my spirit was weak. When I have chosen to follow some other path the spirit has withdrawn from my life and I feel a lesser man for its loss in my daily life.

How I live my faith

I serve in the church in a couple of different positions. I am the Boy Scout Committee chair, the chartering official for both our Boy Scout Troop and Pack (Cub scouts). I'm also a ward missionary, responsible for teaching the gospel to new members of the church and for going on exchanges with the missionaries (you have seen the young men in white shirts and ties on bikes). During these lessons I bear testimony of the gospel and assist in teaching the gospel.
