Hi I'm Derek

I live in the suburbs. I love my wife, and my two dogs are just as neurotic as I am. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I finished school a couple of years ago. I'm still trying to figure out where I fit in society and how to be successful, productive, and how to provide for my family. Naturally, for the interim I work at a bank. I spend most of my time with my beautiful wife and our hobbies are snuggling, thinking about the future and enjoying every moment we have in the present. It might not be much but every day I wake with a renewed sense of happiness. With confidence that I'm where I'm supposed to be. I am very grateful to have the most amazing companion to compliment my weaknesses, admire my strengths and for being my courage and inspiration to dream.

Why I am a Mormon

I chose to take the missionary lessons and to be baptized when I was 18 years old, shortly after graduating high school. I always believed in God but never understood it. Learning the Doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints not only made sense at the time but as I learned it simply felt right. When I was baptized I can honestly say that my testimony of The Gospel's truth was simply that, it felt like the right thing to do. A year after I was baptized I chose to be a missionary and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. It was terrifying feeling like I had nothing to share and not being sure if I really knew for myself if what I was teaching was true. There was a moment during the beginning part of my 2 year journey where I knew I couldn't continue if I didn't absolutely know that what I was sharing came from God. I prayed with every once of courage I could gather in my skinny frame and received an answer I will never forget. From that day forth I was on fire and I testified as one who received his answer straight from the mouth of The Savior himself because all doubt and confusion was gone. I knew, as I still do that this is the true Church of Christ, that it is lead by a chosen Prophet of God, that Christ is its Cornerstone and that by following it's doctrine families can be together forever. Pray about it, read The Book of Mormon, Talk to a Member, walk the Temple Grounds, ask God. I know you will receive an answer to your questions just as I did. Just as my Wife did, my Sister and the countless number of others that have had their heart touched and softened by the hand of the Lord.

How I live my faith

My wife and I teach the 16 and 17 year old youth in our Ward. We love to hear them speak of their love for the Savior and see how their knowledge of the Saviors Sacrifice has shaped their adolescence and made them stand out amongst their peers. I visit and teach often with the Sister Missionaries in our area, sharing the Gospel never stops. We love having a family of members that our always near and that are so willing to come to our aide. I love that everyone in the Church gets to participate by having an assignment or a calling. We all work together in our communities take make them better and to help each other in any way we can. I'm no where near perfect but everyday I try a little harder, that's the beauty of The Gospel. It makes bad men good and good men better, and I can always be better.
