Hi I'm Ned

I am the fourth of 11 children, married, father of 4, grandfather of 12, retired professor, an LDS member. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

One grandfather immigrated alone, at age 15, to America from Switzerland. My other grandparents were born in Utah, Oregon, and Kentucky. I was raised on a dairy farm in Utah, the 4th of 11 children, one of 7 sons to earn the Eagle Rank in Boy Scouts, and one of 8 who served missions – mine to Germany and Italy. I graduated from Utah State and Pennsylvania State Universities. My wife, who sent me a “Dear John” while on my mission, has been by my side through thick and thin since two weeks after my mission. We have 4 children and 12 grandchildren to add luster to our lives. During my 38-year professional career, we have lived in Pennsylvania, California, Utah, Arizona, and Washington, where we experienced the unique cultures and love of the people of all faiths in each location – what a blessing it has been throughout our lives.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in Utah to parents of deep faith. They loved me and taught me the gospel of Jesus Christ and the principles of true discipleship expected of His followers. As a child at age 8, just prior to my baptism, I came to know for myself that this gospel and principles, by which I am to live, were true. I was given the Gift of the Holy Ghost as a constant companion, as long as I am worthy, who would reveal to me what I should do and decisions I should make throughout my life. Throughout my life I have taken my questions and challenges to the Lord in prayer and He has answered my prayers and given assurances through the Holy Ghost that the choices I make are right. I know that there are living prophets on the earth today and Jesus Christ leads His church through these prophets. Through the scriptures (Bible and Book of Mormon), I have learned more about God’s dealings with His children in former days so that I can be assured that He loves us, too, and will guide and provide for us as well through the mouths of living prophets, what God would have us know and do in these days – I have learned by my and others' experiences that it is too dangerous not to follow the counsel of former-day and living prophets.

How I live my faith

I ask myself, “What would Jesus do?” And then I try to say and do what He would say or do. I pray daily to have His spirit to be with me as I make decisions and interact with others. He went about doing good – this is my goal to hold up His light of “…lift[ing] up the hands that hang down and strengthen the feeble knees.” I must develop stronger faith and hope, then have charity for all people. I have been given many opportunities in my professional life and in serving in the Church to grow and develop talents that I am to use in serving others. I know that He has not nor will not call me to do anything except He will prepare a way for me to accomplish that which He has asked me to do.
