Hi I'm George

I grew up in Miami, went to college in Pennsylvania and served in the Navy and Air Force and have four children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I spent my youth in Miami and haven't lived there since I left for college. I earned an electrical engineering degree and married after graduating. I became a Navy pilot, and served for almost eleven years; we lived in Florida, Maine and Italy. Subsequently I joined, and retired from, the Air National Guard. My wife and I have been married forty-six years and we have four children and ten grandchildren. After leaving the Navy, I was employed by a large airplane manufacturer for thirty-one years and I'm recently retired. Now, after all that work and having picked up a few more degrees, I'm not sure what I want to do when I finish growing up.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because I believe it is the true church. It answers my questions about who I am, where I came from, and what my Heavenly Father would have me receive after this life. As we've served and grown in the Church, it has helped my wife and I to raise our children and provided a basis and context for our daily lives that has greatly blessed us and those we love. Joining the Church was a big change for us. We were both raised and married as Catholics and we were more faithful than most of our peers; we're still the only Mormons in our respective families. Shortly after graduating from college, we got married and immediately started Navy flight school; a classmate introduced us to the Missionaries. We put up a good resistance and wore out a few of them before we were baptized, but it was the smartest thing we ever did. I got my Navy wings and became a Mormon in the same week! For me, continuing revelation is a touchstone with my Heavenly Father. I believe His love and concern for us, His spiritual children, is manifested through His son, Jesus Christ, in the gospel He exemplified. Today they entrust the Prophet and the leadership of the Church to lead in teaching and administering the gospel among His followers. We follow because we believe and by choosing to follow, we are blessed. In a nutshell, I believe the Church -- out of all the organizations on Earth -- is the "best fit" with the teachings of our Savior when He was upon the earth. If I thought another church was a better "fit", I'd join it. It's that important!

How I live my faith

My most important 'calling' has been to become a husband and provider; after that being a father to our children has been pretty demanding too. We have one child who had an unhappy marriage and has returned to the nest. With our help and continuing nurture she is now back in college training for a new career; being a parent never ends. However, being a grandparent is loads of fun and highly recommended. In my forty-six years of being a "Mormon," I've served in many church capacities, from Sunday School teacher to chorister, to Scoutmaster. Currently I select the music for our Sacrament Meeting and prepare the Sunday 'bulletin'. From time to time I've served in various administrative positions and am now working in the Temple. Every calling has been a challenge and an opportunity to learn and develop new skills. Opportunities to serve in the Church are endless - in every sense of the word. I believe in the principle of "eternal progression." After this life my spirit will retain and use whatever capabilities I've developed here; they won't be wasted. They will be added upon and turned to whatever task my eternal spirit will be asked to do. Heavenly Father uses inspired leaders to help us to help ourselves -- and to help His other children to grow.
