Hi I'm Shelly

I'm a wife, I'm a mother, I'm a daughter, I'm a sister, I'm a friend, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on the Iron Range of northern Minnesota (Mt. Iron). I'm a wife and a mother of five beautiful children -- ranging from 10 to 23 years old -- plus a beautiful daughter-in-law which recently joined our family. I am self-employed doing administrative and bookkeeping work. I love the outdoors!!!.....including camping, horse back riding, hiking, biking, canoeing..... being with my family! I also love photography, crocheting, reading, etc. I followed my family to Alaska after graduating from ITT Tech (Minnesota School of Business). After meeting and marrying my husband there, we moved to Idaho, where we are raising our family.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church when I was 20 years old. I was living a life where I was making a lot of poor choices and had a lot of emptiness, which got me searching for something better. While I was looking into the church, friends and family furnished me with an abundance of anti Mormon literature which, ironically, led to my joining the church. I read every bit! The things that were stated, that sounded unbelievable, I questioned. When I read segmants of quotes from LDS leaders, I got access to the source and read the entire statements. I wondered why people of other faiths felt the need to take things out of context. The more I read, the more I wanted the gospel in my life. I spent time with LDS families and felt a strong desire to have what they had. I attended church and loved the spirit I felt when I was there. My favorite Sundays were the first Sundays of each month, where people are invited to go up to the podium to share their personal testimonies. I joined the church not knowing everything, but the things I learned made sense. I acted on faith and probably some stubborness. Twenty-six years later, I believe this is one of the best decisions I've made in my life. My life is far from perfect, but I look at my family in amazement! Whenever I feel myself struggling or alone, I realize it's me that's allowing this distance between me and my Heavenly Father. He's the same yesterday, today and forever.......He's always there for me! I am a daughter of God!

How I live my faith

I have served in many different aspects of the church, but am currently serving in the nursery. I have grown to love this calling and miss the times that I'm not there. The children love to learn, they love to sing, and (most of the time) they love to smile! My different callings to teach all ages are when I think my testimony grows the strongest. Teaching definitely gets me out of my comfort zone, but the studying and preparing have probably taught me more than when I sit and listen. I am also a visiting teacher. I often allow my life to get too busy, but enjoy it when I get the opportunity to go. I love the organizations of hometeaching and visiting teaching! I love knowing there are those we can turn to for support not only in our temporal but spiritual lives.
