Hi I'm Melinda

I was baptized 1972 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Portland, OR. BYU Chile Santiago Mission

About Me

What I enjoy most is to be with my family and friends chatting, chatting, chatting... or babysitting grandchildren. My personal interests include studying the scriptures and gospel related topics; serving as a missionary; serving in the temple; teaching gospel principles; sharing compassionate service; attending church activities; community service; researching family history and world history; astronomy; archeology; modern technology and science; keeping up with global events; writing articles, poems stories; watching or reading detective and mystery stories; making costume jewelry; water and oil painting; meeting and interacting with people of all cultures; learning Spanish; learning the etymology of words; traveling; listening to good music; home renovation projects; organizing and de-cluttering; swimming; dancing; nature walks; moon and star gazing; creating fun surprises for family and friends; splashing through ocean waves; enjoying Christmas music, the peace and warmth of Christmas Eve, and the joy of giving sensitively planned and selected gifts.

Why I am a Mormon

I can honestly say I had some spiritual inclinations from as early as age five. I kept searching for a religion that would match the feelings I had. I was skeptical when I first listened to the missionaries, but when they taught me the Plan of Salvation or Plan of Happiness, it was exactly as I had perceived the Lord's will for me in my mind from childhood. The turning point for me was when I read the Book of Mormon. I read only three pages when the Spirit of the Lord witnessed to me so powerfully that what I read was a true and accurate account of the ancient people who lived on this continent 600 years before Christ's birth. The words of the ancient prophets, especially Mormon and King Benjamin, resonated to the depths of my soul. I knew Joseph Smith was also a prophet or he could not have translated that book. Nor could he have restored and organized the church with the same order that God had established from the beginning. It was logically sound, but I still prayed to my Heavenly Father for an answer. I believe I got that answer, and I have continued to receive such affirmations for more than 40 years.

How I live my faith

Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints encompasses my entire life in every aspect from family and friends, to health and education, to personal finances and wise decisions in life. I live my life according to what I believe every day. This gospel is not only a complete lifestyle, it is truly a plan for life here and hereafter. I served in the Chile Santiago Mission 1975-76. I continue to teach the gospel to others who are seeking to know the truth. I daily strive to serve people from all walks of life when and where possible. I seek lifelong learning to understand the world around me and the people, plants, animals, and creations God has blessed us with. I strive to apply true principles to my own character, integrity, social and emotional well being. I share what I've learned with anyone who desires my help. I follow the teachings of Christ. I study both the Bible and the Book of Mormon as well as other religious texts, including those recently discovered through archeological digs. I learn about other religions to be aware of and sensitive to the feelings and viewpoints of others. I am assigned a teaching responsibility in the women's organization called the Relief Society. I live each day with a desire to improve and be a good example of a Christian.
