Hi I'm Elder Marc Williams

I love my wife & kids, my grandkids, backpacking with my adult kids, and serving a mission with my wife! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Until my mission in New York City, I lived in the Pacific Northwest all my life. I met a beautiful girl from New Hampshire during college at Brigham Young University, and was lucky enough to talk her into marrying me (wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be…). We have five adult children who are talented, good people, and nine grandchildren who live too far away! Amazingly, I had the same employer my whole career (Boeing) until I retired at the end of 2015. The perfect mission day for me is to get up at 6:30, work out and study with my wife for an hour and a half, and then fulfill my mission and church responsibilities the rest of the day, helping in a small way to bring people to Christ!

Why I am a Mormon

I’m a Mormon because I was born to two parents who were a great example of Christ-like living. They showed me what it means to work hard and serve others all their lives. I knew I ultimately wanted to be like them, even during those years when I chafed at the constraints. They were members of the church and that’s why I am. A better question is probably, why do I work hard to be active in and live my faith? The answer to that is -- because I found out for myself in the laboratory of life that it is true, and that by following Christ and being valiant in serving others I am happy and can bring the most happiness to those around me! I am absolutely convinced that the way to eternal happiness is following the commandments and participating in the first principles and ordinances of the gospel: 1) Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, 2) Repentance, 3) Baptism by one having authority, 4) Receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost from one having the authority from God and 5) Continuing to follow the commandments until the end. That is what I believe and try to live by.

How I live my faith

I try to work hard, be a good person, and try to overcome my natural tendency to keep to myself and only worry about myself. We believe we are here on earth to receive a body and learn to control our mortal appetites, so we can become like Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father, and each decision I make every day takes me either closer to that goal or further from it! I’m probably closer than I was at 20, but not nearly as close as my wife! She is better than me at everything that is really important in life! I have had the opportunity to work with young single adult members of our church in my last several church assignments, and my wife and I love that! It has reminded me that we ‘older’ people place limiters on young people’s capabilities that are simply not true—they can do anything we can do, mostly better! Every church assignment I have had (our church has a completely lay ministry) has made me a better person as I serve others. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve!
