Hi I'm Susan

I grew up moving from place to place. I learned early to march to my own beat. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the mother of 5 kids, 4 grandkids and just began the life of an "empty nester". I collect buttons, the kind on clothing and enjoy making jam. Other hobbies that thrill me are ancient history and working on my family history. I have chronic back pain, so I spend a lot of time working on my laptop. I love taking and working on photos and creating graphics and layouts. My most fulfilling project was a 400+ page printed family history book that I co-wrote with a cousin.

Why I am a Mormon

I began attending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 4, when I was invited to attend Primary (the children's organization) by a neighbor. That day I felt something I had never felt before. It was a mix of what was taught, the spirit I felt there and just the feeling that I had come home. I learned about my Savior in a way that screamed, "This is not new, you knew this before." I have never prayed to know if this Gospel of Jesus Christ is truly His. As I learned, the Holy Spirit bore witness to me. I just knew. I have lived the Gospel as best I could my entire life. I continue to make the changes in my life that will bring me ever closer to my Savior. It's not always easy, but as I make these vital changes, the peace that enters my life is more than worth it. I know my Savior lives, He is at the head of this church and a big part of my life. I love the scriptures. The Old and New Testaments carry familiar words to guide my life and yet I have the blessing of modern revelations, especially in the Book of Mormon. All these scriptures make a beautiful tapestry to decorate my life and are revelations from God, through His prophets. I know that we have a living prophet, President Monson. He receives revelation to guide us through these frightening times. I have never regretted becoming a member of this church. It is Christ's church.

How I live my faith

I currently, have the greets blessing in teaching seminary. It is a religious class for high school freshmen-seniors, taught for 50 minutes every day of school. Seminary begins before school, with enough time to allow the kids to get to their high school on time. We cover a different book of scripture each year and are currently in the Old Testament. This has been a labor of love and I am so lucky to teaching and learning from these bright, sweet and busy children of God. I teach Juniors and Seniors and wouldn't change this assignment for all the sleep in the world! I learn a new appreciation for these kids every week. What a gift it has been for me, to spend so much time each day learning and teaching about Jesus Christ, His Atonement and how that knowledge can change our lives. I love my students and leave my home at 6:30 am every morning, with bright eyes and anticipation.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

We need a Savior more than we need anything else in this life. It's like going to the store to buy food, just so you can live. You have brought all the money you have, but the price is so high, you can't even come close to paying for what you need to survive. The Savior steps up in that moment, and for all those sins you've repented of, He covers the price that must be paid. Without Jesus Christ and all He did for us, we would never be able to receive grace and return to live with Him. Show more Show less
