Hi I'm Emily

I grew up in Oklahoma. I am a mother to five young children. I like horseback riding. I love truth. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of six children and grew up in a small town in Oklahoma. I love being from the Midwest surrounded by good people and long, beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I lived in Oklahoma until I went to college. I graduated from college with a bachelor's degree in business finance one year after I married my husband. We both went on to earn graduate degrees from the same university. I pursued a joint degree, a JD/MBA, and graduated from law school and business school when I was six months pregnant with our first child. From there, we moved to Nebraska for my husband's job. A few months after my daughter was born, I passed the bar exam. At that point, I decided to concentrate my time and efforts on raising my family. I am so grateful I have had the opportunity to stay home with my children. I am now a mother to five young children. My husband is my best friend and a great support in all I do. Some of my hobbies include playing piano, walking and running with friends, reading good books with my kids, learning about history, keeping in touch with my extended family, and riding horses...which I wish I could do more often. Maybe someday!

Why I am a Mormon

I didn't have to go very far to find The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I was raised by wonderful parents who taught me the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and in deed. However, my testimony has grown deeper and stronger as I have grown. Over time, I have been able to test each gospel principle I have been taught and find out for myself if it is true. I remain a member of this church because I love truth. I am overwhelmed by the love I know my Father in Heaven has for me and for all His children. I am filled with gratitude for the infinite atonement of His son, Jesus Christ, that we might be able to repent and be forgiven when we make mistakes. I am thrilled by His great plan of happiness to have each of us return to live with Him if we so choose.

How I live my faith

Because my hands are quite full these days with my five young children, my service is pretty small and simple. However, I still like to do my part. At church, I serve by playing the piano for the children to sing during their music time on Sundays. I have also been blessed to be assigned four women to visit and to teach a short gospel message to each month. In addition, I try to find ways to serve those around me in more informal ways. Sometimes my service is bringing a meal to a neighbor who is sick, or watching a friend's children while they go to an appointment, or just offering a listening ear and kind word. In our home, we read from the scriptures every day. We have family and personal prayers morning and night. We reserve one night a week to learn a gospel principle and play together. We make Sunday a special day where church and family are the focus. We try to stay healthy by exercising, avoiding harmful or addictive substances, and eating good things. We fill our home with good books, artwork, and movies and avoid any entertainment that drives away the spirit of truth and light.
