Hi I'm Tina

I have 6 amazing kids, including one with severe disabilities. I'm an avid knitter. I'm a Cancer Survivor. And, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up as a Mormon, but I was not one of those girls who dreamed of having a house full of kids. I wanted to own a business, be in a board room, direct meetings, and well, maybe have one child. And, while, I did spend time in board rooms, lots of meetings, and owned my own business for a while, I now have SIX kids ranging in age from 18 to 5, and the most surprising part is I love being a Mom! Our house is always bustling with action. Until last year, I home schooled the children, but my youngest son has severe disabilities which means lots of doctors and therapy appointments, so now all of the children attend public schools. I even have one in college. Shortly after our youngest son’s birth and his diagnosis of special needs, our family went through several other very difficult trials. My husband in a very short time lost three jobs due to the tough economic conditions, I had hand surgery, we had two unexpected moves, and I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. The Cancer only took my hair and a lot of time, but overall I won! It sounds like a lot to go through I know, and maybe it sounds a little crazy, but I'm so thankful for those experiences. I've learned that God's plans are always better than mine and for each of the trials there are amazing blessings. There isn't enough room here to tell you of each of the blessings. I learned so much about the power of prayer, service, friendship, phone calls, scriptures, a meal, etc.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because each week when I attend church I feel strengthened for the week ahead. I know that the when I follow the teachings they bring peace to my life. I know that when I read the Book of Mormon I feel peace, the same feelings I have when I read the New Testament which I love. No matter how much is going on in my life, I know I can have that peace which I need. I know that Jesus Christ is our Redeemer. That He can help us no matter how far we have strayed. I know He wants to help us, and that He can help us to feel clean and free again. I know that I feel happy when I am doing the things that Jesus taught us to do. I am happy when I am serving others, whether it’s my family or my friends or my community. I know I have a Heavenly Father who loves me and who is aware of who I am and what is happening in my life. I know He hears me when I pray and that He loves me and He loves you.

How I live my faith

I think it can be easy when we're really busy to get wrapped up with to-do lists and to forget that people are more important than things. At least, it can be easy for me to forget that. Reading my scriptures and daily prayer help me to keep focused on what is really important each day. In our church, there are also always opportunities to the serve. For the past several years, I have taught job search skills at an employment workshop each week. The workshop is taught at our local church and is open to every one in the community, members of the church and friends of the church. It's one of my very favorite things to do! My kids and I also help in the community by volunteering with an Early Childhood organization that provides therapy to children like our son. For the past couple of years, we have organized wrapping hundreds of Christmas presents for their annual Christmas party,m and we stuffed hundreds of Fiesta bags for their annual Taste of the North Side fundraiser. It's a fun way to get the whole family involved!
