Hi I'm Dawn

I grew up in Independence, Missouri. My passion is helping people. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I went to college for a couple of years at Ricks College in Idaho. I tried the Pre-Nursing stuff and decided to transfer to Communicative Disorders. I met my husband and 6 months later was married. I have 5 great kids, 1 daughter and 4 sons. I have been a stay-at-home Mom for 23 years and absolutely loved every moment. When my youngest was in 7th grade, I decided after talking with my husband that I would take a class to become a Nurses Aid Certified (CNA). Working in the medical field in any way is a dream. I currently work part time in a skilled care center. Helping others makes me feel wonderful! There isn't one thing about the work I do that I don't like. My Father passed away in 1992 at the young age of 52. He died of a heart attack in his sleep caused by the disease AIDS. I was 25 years old. He was and is a great man. I love to read. Historical fiction, and biographies are a couple of the types of books I like.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the LDS Church just before I was born. Yes, I was raised in the church. When I was about 15 years old, I remember thinking that my friends at school who were raised in their respective churches/religions and believe those to be the true church, what makes my church/religion different? Is The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints the true church? I contemplated this. I prayed to my Father in Heaven asking this very question. I thought about this much and I will never forget a warmth that came over me from head to toe that gave such peace. I knew that I was a member of the only church on the face of the earth that has the same priesthood authority that Jesus Christ has. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is true. I love my Savior, Jesus Christ. The Atonement is real. Jesus died so that we can all return and live with Him and our Father in Heaven. I know that He loves me and that He did live on the earth. I believe that God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are three separate beings with one purpose; to help us return to live with them again. God the Father and His son, Jesus Christ, did appear to the boy Joseph Smith. Joseph had a question of which church was true and he had the faith to pray for an answer. The answer. Non were true. We have a living prophet on the earth today that holds all the priesthood keys on the earth today. I know that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Christ and His teachings in the Americas. It goes hand in hand with the Bible. There is nothing that makes me feel more happy and at peace than when I am following the Savior in my life. Trying to be like Jesus knowing that He is like our Father in Heaven. He wants me to be happy. I am grateful for the knowledge that I can return to live with them again someday and reunite with my family that has passed before me. What amazing comfort comes from that knowledge...that death isn't the end...families can be forever!

How I live my faith

With four sons, I have actively helped with Scout Eagle Projects and many service projects. I have taught an early morning bible study class for junior and seniors. I have taught children from 3-12 years. Teenagers and women. I am currently the president over the women in our ward. I love my calling. One of the most enjoyable things that I get to do is called Visiting Teaching. This is where women are paired together and assigned to visit 2 or 3 other women every month. I do this and I am visited every month. This allows us to build unity and love one to another. We serve each other when there are needs and I know that I can call the ladies that visit me if I ever needed anything. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ is so much of me. It's who I am. It's a way of life that defines who you are.
