Hi I'm Matt

I play basketball and tennis, I love the beach, I'm studying to become a CPA, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Southern California. I'm the fourth of five kids. I have two older sisters, an older brother, and a younger sister. I've always had a love of sports, music, and movies. My favorite sports are definitely basketball and tennis. I love watching the Los Angeles Lakers and playing basketball for myself any chance I get. I played tennis throughout high school and also like to play it whenever possible. I recently began learning how to golf, which has also been a TON of fun. I have learned how to snowboard while living close to the mountains, and when I moved back to California for an internship this past summer I began transferring my snowboarding skills to surfing. Growing up, I listened to a lot of rock and roll. My favorite band lately has been the Beatles. I like playing the guitar and trying to recreate the songs that have inspired me throughout my life. Some of my favorite movies are E.T., Hoosiers, Vertigo, Citizen Kane, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Rocky, October Sky, and Forest Gump. I enjoyed an internship with a public accounting firm recently and will work at that firm after I graduate. Above all, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and practicing my faith as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

I've asked myself this question a lot. Why am I a Mormon? Why do I embrace a lifestyle and value-system which can seem to be radically different from what is considered "normal" in the world today? The answer to this question has always been pretty simple. I am a happier, healthier, and more confident person thanks to my upbringing in the Mormon faith. As I read the teachings of Christ as found in the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and His latter-day prophets, I have felt my mind enlightened and my heart uplifted. As I strive to keep the commandments as taught in the Mormon faith, I feel safe and protected from many of the problems plaguing our society today. When I pray to my Father in heavan, I feel Him guiding and directing me through my most difficult life decisions. As I have faced trials such as the death of loved ones, I have felt the hope of life after death in the eternities to come. As I have come to understand His plan for us as His children, I have come to learn of the purpose and meaning of my life. As I have taken opportunities to serve others, I have felt a greater feeling of love for all of God's children. As I have been served by many different faithful Mormons, I have felt God's love for me personally exhibited through these people. When I think of how my life is different from the "normal" person, I am thankful and happy that I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith on a daily basis through striving to keep the commandments, praying to Heavenly Father, and reading scriptures. As I do these things I feel that I learn truths of an eternal nature and align my life with the will of God. I also attend church on a weekly basis where I promise to continue following the teachings of Christ and receive instruction on how to do so. I help to plan Sunday activities outside of normal church services for my congregation of single students. We hold a meeting every Sunday evening where we sing a song, share a brief spiritual message, and end with a prayer. It is a great way to end our Sunday, remember what we have learned that day, and start the week off on the right foot!
