Hi I'm Laura

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife and a mother of five children. I have 6 grandchildren so far, 3 boys and 3 girls ages 15 to 3 months. Being a Grandma is the BEST! I love to read mystery novels and historical novels. I have always loved animals. While our children were growing up we had a horse ranch with Arabian horses where we bred and showed our horses. It was a great family adventure. I also love dogs and help train rescue dogs and find them homes, or help others with training their dogs. I recently became a certified dog trainer and enjoy using my knowledge to help families with their pets. I also enjoy doing Family History research to search out my ancestors. I work part time for a chiropractor at present.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a convert to the church. I joined when I was 23 years old. When my first daughter was born, I was researching the christening that was customarily done in the Methodist church for babies. I had many questions as a new mother and wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. However, I couldn't quite understand the purpose of that ceremony. Later, when I visited the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and listened to a Sunday School lesson, I was amazed to hear that children aren't baptized until they reach the age of accountability, which is 8 years old. Suddenly, I knew why I was so uncomfortable with the christening of my child! I continued to attend the Mormon church and was baptized when my daughter was 1 1/2 years old. Since that time, I have raised our children in the church because I know it to be true. The feelings I had when I was baptized confirmed to me that I was doing the right thing and that the Church is true. I believe in the Savior Jesus Christ and am so grateful for His Atonement. The teachings of the Savior that the Church follows gives me peace and comfort in my life.

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunities to serve since I joined the church. I have taught classes of children, youth and adults. My favorite teaching opportunity was to teach an early morning church class to high school students. Each morning the students would attend a 6-7am class based on the scriptures. It was a wonderful time and I'm sure I benefitted even more than the students. I like to participate in the choir at church. I have also had the opportunity to play the piano at church and lead the congregation in singing hymns during the services.
