Hi I'm Kathy

I love to laugh with my daughters, hold babies, photography and to travel. I'm a wife, mother and grandmother and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in California, graduated from BYU, worked as a juvenile probation officer and my husband and I have lived in the Northwest for thirty-five years. Over those years my hobbies have taken back seat to my family. There is absolutely nothing that I would rather do than spend time with my six beautiful daughters and twenty-one grandchildren. I was able to be a stay at home mom and now that my girls are all grown and have families of their own I am so grateful for the time I was able to spend with each of them. I love them all very much and can say that while none of us in my family is perfect, that they are all perfect for me and I know that they were each sent to my husband and me for a special reason.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was born my parents were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons). But I developed a love for the gospel of Jesus Christ as a young adult while in college and it has proven to be a great comfort and strength to me always, it is a constant in my life. Because of my membership in this church I have learned and have a sure knowledge that my Heavenly Father hears and answers my prayers, that He and His son Jesus Christ know and love me. I have learned that there are beautiful life lessons in the holy scriptures, that I am blessed far beyond my ability to understand and that through the Atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ I can be forgiven, comforted in times of trial, and find peace and great joy in this life. Because of my membership in the church I know that I am a child of God.

How I live my faith

Although there are many misconceptions about our beliefs, I think most people would say that we are family oriented. My church teaches that the family is central to our Heavenly Father's plan for us. I am grateful for the opportunity to teach Marriage and Parenting classes at church. In our classes we discuss things like, trying to develop Christlike attributes, equality in marriage, effective communication techniques, anger control, resolving conflicts, nurturing our children, and showing love and appreciation to our spouses. In addition to teaching I hope that I live my faith by serving others and treating my family, friends and acquaintances with kindness and respect. I hope that as I strive to live my religion that those around can see that I have a great love for and abiding faith in my Savior Jesus Christ.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Kathy
Yes, we believe that the Bible is the word of God and regard it as Holy Scripture. Our high school age youth are encouraged to attend scripture study classes. I have been fortunate to teach those classes. We spend one school year studying the Old Testament and one school year studying the New Testament. In those classes we learn of the life of Jesus Christ, His mission here on earth and His atoning sacrifice for us. We learn of His love for us and His desire to help us return to our Heavenly Father. We also learn that God has always sent Prophets to his people to guide and direct them. The bible stories many of us learned as children have great messages of hope and faith and obedience. There are lessons in those stories that we should apply to ourselves. We are very blessed to have the Bible. Show more Show less
