Hi I'm Dorothy

I was born in Oregon. I was born into a large family and have a large family of my own. I am a Mormon and I love it.

About Me

I am the mother of a large family and the grandmother of many. I love gardening, art, reading, traveling and a lot other things. I have had the privilege of traveling to a few foreign countries and really enjoy the beauty of this earth. I love living in the midwest, in spite of the humidity. When we had been married about 10 years, we moved away from both of our families. It was hard to be the one always so far away, but we found other families who had shared the same experience. When we could not spend holidays with biological family, we joined with other families. We found that we could have a good holiday "family experience" and made lasting friendships in the process. We love Jesus Christ and try to live as we read in the scriptures, that he wants us to live. We are friendly to all around us and want to be helpful to our neighbors when they need our help. We have lived through some tough times, such as no job, no money, no working car. We have always relied on prayer during these tough times and have felt love and direction from the Lord, as well as love and compassion from family and friends around us. We can look back and see that these were faith promotiing experiences and growth experiences. We would not want to repeat some of these experiences, but have been glad that we had them and that we learned what we did because of them.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was baptized when I was eight years old. As a family we read from the Bible and the Book of Mormon on a regular basis. I love the scriptures and know that they written by men who were inspired by God in the writing of them. I was taught about Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father and was taught to pray. I have had my prayers answered and I know that Jesus Christ is the Saviour of the World. He died on the cross to bring to pass the ressurection of the dead. He paid the price for my sins and all the sins of everyone and asks us to repent of what we do wrong. If we do repent, He will forgive us and help us gain Eternal Life. I desire to live as He would like me to live and set a good example for my family. I really love my family and am so happy to know that families are an important part of God's plan for all of us. I know that families can be together forever. I cannot imagine not having my family with me after I leave this world.

How I live my faith

I attend Church every week, we have Family Home Evenings together every week. I teach in the Young Women program of the church. We watch General Conference on TV, as a family, every April and October. We can listen to the leaders of the Church at that time. We know that they are Prophets and Apostles who have been call by God. We know that they receive inspiration and revelation from God to lead this Church, and help us improve our own lives. We can increase our faith in Jesus Christ and try harder to follow His example. We daily read the scriptures and have personal and family prayer. We try to do good to all that we come in contact with. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ has been a very good thing for me. I am extremely happy and love life. I love having this extra help to teach my family correct principles, to understand the scriptures, to learn how to draw nearer to God, to be aware of those around me and their needs. I visit other women as their visiting teacher. I check on them monthly, to share a Gospel message, to see how they are doing, to be a friend and to help in any way that I can.
